It helps them concentrate on their education, while also creating a calm and positive space where learning feels exciting and accessible. Students have their own headphones to successfully complete online lessons and focus their attention. We can now gather on the floor for our peace circles and morning meetings with everything we need right at hand. These moments of connection are meaningful because students feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nYour kindness is more than a gift of supplies—it's an investment in their futures. Within the first few weeks of school, these essential materials – from pens and pencils to binders and notecards – have ensured that every student can fully participate. We've used the binders to organize our \"Writer's Workshop\" notebooks, where students are brainstorming and outlining their personal narratives. Having their own pencil pouches and reliable pens means they can quickly jot down ideas and engage in peer editing without the distraction of searching for or borrowing supplies. It's truly leveled the playing field, making sure no one feels left behind or unprepared in our urban setting.\r\n\r\nThe students' reactions when they first saw the materials were truly heartwarming. Many of our students, who don't always have access to new school supplies at home, were visibly excited and appreciative. This moment of receiving these materials fostered an immediate sense of belonging and readiness, affirming that their education is a priority and that they are valued members of our learning community.\r\n\r\nFor our next steps, these fundamental supplies will continue to be critical. In our current \"Community Heroes\" project, students are using the notecards to organize their research on local individuals who have made a positive impact. They'll use their pencils and pens to draft interview questions and fill out graphic organizers, all kept neatly in their new binders. Beyond academic projects, the cleaning supplies will be instrumental in teaching students about shared responsibility and maintaining a positive learning environment. Our goal is to empower them with the tools they need not only to excel academically but also to develop a sense of ownership and care for our classroom space, fostering a truly productive and respectful atmosphere throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1569556449621,"projectUrl":"project/lets-get-it-started/4157869/","projectTitle":"Let's Get It Started!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Randle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3629180_orig.jpg?crop=981,981,x0,y78&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1556904177221","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3629180"},{"teacherId":9766672,"projectId":9272156,"letterContent":"First of all, I want to thank you for your kind generosity and support. These donations have greatly enhanced the learning capabilities and spaces for the students. They were very excited about the stand up desk. In fact, they have forced me to provide them with a sign in sheet to use them during lessons and they also act as an interaction hub for group art during free time. The desk seats have also been a hit given that these students were sitting on \"learning rugs\", last year and not having that this year, created a since of nostalgia for some of them. \r\n\r\n As for the technological aspects; the computer and speaker have allowed us to enrich read aloud time with back ground graphics and music. I am able to present a audio/ visual presentation while still having the lesson projected. The sound system has also made our brain break/ dance for 2 minutes time more fun because the students can actually hear the music instead of using the speaker from the projector. \r\n\r\n Overall, this is yet another piece of a big puzzle that these children are starting to see come together and their future learning environments will be better and more engaging.","fullyFundedDate":1746786283469,"projectUrl":"project/3rd-grade-elevation-project/9272156/","projectTitle":"3rd Grade Elevation Project!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Hurt","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9766672_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1738776018733","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9766672"},{"teacherId":9766672,"projectId":9096261,"letterContent":"The materials that were given to us has greatly improved the classroom experience. It's been an exciting rollacoaster to see how these students have prospered with these generous donations. Our students are now deep into digital storytelling, a project that's been greatly enhanced by these tools. For instance, a recent project on local historical figures allowed one group to seamlessly incorporate archival photos and oral histories into multimedia presentations about the civil rights movement. The ability to embed video, create slideshows, and record voiceovers has elevated their work to a professional level, something impossible with our previous limited resources. Research, creation, and presentation now flow fluidly within the classroom.\r\nThe students' reactions when they first saw the materials were priceless. There were gasps and a collective buzz of excitement. Many, without access to such technology at home, were wide-eyed. It wasn't just about new tools; it was the tangible feeling of being valued and equipped, showing them their education truly matters. The next exciting steps, thanks to your continued support, are twofold:\r\n\r\nWe'll purchase a diverse collection of books for our classroom library, focusing on topics that reflect our students' interests and cultural backgrounds.\r\nWe plan to create a flexible seating and lounge area within our classroom, a comfortable space with beanbags, floor cushions, and movable tables. This will be a true hub for collaboration, reading, and independent work, complementing the technology you've so generously provided.","fullyFundedDate":1571976730726,"projectUrl":"project/supplies-galore/4503523/","projectTitle":"Supplies Galore!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Randle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3629180_orig.jpg?crop=981,981,x0,y78&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1556904177221","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3629180"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5768","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":363,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":94,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":94,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"17.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":64.3,"schoolId":5768,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Harvard Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Harvard Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/harvard-elementary-school/5768"}
