This technology has already transformed the way my students think, create, and solve problems. Many of them are familiar with technology from home - phones, tablets, gaming systems - but few have experienced industry-level digital fabrication tools that allow them to design, prototype, and manufacture real products. The Glowforge bridges that gap, providing hands-on experience that connects their ideas to tangible outcomes and real-world engineering applications.\r\n\r\nThe excitement around the Glowforge has been immediate and contagious. Students are exploring personalized products such as engraved keychains, custom jewelry, and signage while also developing engineering-focused projects like structural model components, robotics pieces, and architectural design prototypes. The ability to see their digital drawings become real objects in minutes has ignited creativity and confidence. Even students who normally hesitate to participate are stepping forward with bold ideas they are eager to test and refine.\r\n\r\nOne student in particular, who rarely spoke in class and often avoided group work, has become one of the most enthusiastic leaders around this new technology. After designing a custom nameplate and successfully printing it on the Glowforge, she proudly presented it to her classmates - an experience that completely shifted her engagement. Since then, she has taken ownership of mentoring others and is talking about pursuing engineering and product design in college. Her story reflects what this tool is doing throughout the room: empowering students to believe in their potential and see themselves as innovators.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our students and bringing opportunities to life that they would never have had without your support. Your generosity continues to make a lasting impact on their future, creativity, and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1746640343894,"projectUrl":"project/bringing-creativity-to-life-with-a-glowf/9144242/","projectTitle":"Bringing Creativity to Life with a Glowforge Laser Cutter!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cortez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2109534_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x0,y76&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659937483443","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/tiffani-cortez"},{"teacherId":3738760,"projectId":9348998,"letterContent":"I cannot wait to get Dickens' book started in class with my 10th graders! So often, we are at the mercy of the textbook writers who don't always have a thumb on the pulse of the work we are doing. All year long, my honors kids have been flying through the textbook because it's just too easy for them. They are longing for something to really sink their teeth into, and so am I.\r\n\r\nWe will spend a good deal of time working on character development and theme development as we read \"A Tale of Two Cities,\" but we will also delve into the history aspect of the story, too, as so many of the kids in my grade level know little to nothing about the the French Revolution and the worldwide impact that it had.\r\n\r\nStudents will be completing a character autopsy, writing letters as the characters, and also complete independent research on topics related to the book. I'm looking forward to having them get involved in a challenging text and I hope that it spawns a love that draws them into other classics. One student who used to avoid math problems now works through them eagerly because they feel supported with the right tools.\r\n\r\nYour gift is making a lasting difference, not only for testing, but also for how our students see themselves as capable learners and proving they are college-ready. During math warm-ups, every student works out problems on their board and holds it up to show their thinking. This makes it easy for me to see who's ready to move on and who needs extra help, and the kids love the instant feedback. One of my favorite moments was during a review game—students were so engaged, racing to solve problems and proudly showing their answers on their boards.\r\n\r\nThe room buzzed with excitement the first time I passed them out. Several students immediately said, \"These are way better than using paper!\" and a few even asked if we could use them every day. They loved having their own personal space to work through problems, and the novelty of writing with markers made learning feel more like play.\r\n\r\nWe'll keep using the boards daily for quick checks, partner practice, and group games. Next, I plan to introduce them into small group stations where students can explain their thinking step by step to classmates. These boards make it easier for them to erase mistakes, try again, and build confidence—so they'll be a constant part of our math lessons moving forward.","fullyFundedDate":1757423329605,"projectUrl":"project/marking-up-math/9687409/","projectTitle":"Marking Up Math","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Blakley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10243546_orig.jpg?crop=432,432,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757081754998","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10243546"},{"teacherId":3738760,"projectId":8580810,"letterContent":"There are so many things I could say about the impact your gift of Macbeth texts! I'll start with the fact that over half of my class, despite being in the 10th grade, had never laid eyes on a play before. I introduced the text by letting them just look it over and make a notice and note chart: what do you see that catches your eye and what do you think it's about? We had a good discussion about the names in bold, the stuff in italics, the break down of the play (\"What's an ACT, Miss?\"), and we talked about the good versus the bad. We charted out which character was on which side and I showed them a couple of clips of a stage production of the play. We talked about what sides they'd take and how the chief \"baddie\" was the title character. They were excited to read!\r\n\r\nI'd already decided that I wouldn't force anyone to read aloud who didn't want to, so I made a character sheet for each Act, and on the days that we read, I stood at the door and let them pick a character from a cup. On the first day, they were nervous. They were shy to read. They didn't want to sound stupid in front of their friends...But, they read. It was choppy and we missed parts, but we got through Act 1. We were able to better understand the text and the actions because my struggling readers didn't have to deal with the hard Shakespearean texts. My ESL kiddos could read the easier version in English and have a text next to them in Spanish to help smooth over tough translations. \r\n\r\nThen, a really cool thing happened. On the days we read Act 2, 3, 4, and 5, they came in WANTING to swap each other for their favorite characters! Because of a text that they could understand, so many of them became readers when they would have given up with the traditional text. Thank you so much for inspiring kids to read and giving them the opportunity to get immersed in a text!","fullyFundedDate":1727984480838,"projectUrl":"project/my-students-need-accessible-literature/8580810/","projectTitle":"My Students Need Accessible Literature!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Mac-Mac","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3738760_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x85,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1581548216068","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsmcmc"},{"teacherId":9818320,"projectId":8907316,"letterContent":"I hope this letter finds you well. On behalf of my students, I want to express my gratitude for your generous donation of The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Your support has had a positive impact on the students in my class. \r\n\r\nYour donation has opened my students up to the themes of friendship, betrayal, redemption, and family bonds expressed in the novel. These are powerful and important social and cultural issues that will resonate with teenagers today. \r\n\r\nAs our students immerse themselves in the world of The Kite Runner, they will gain valuable insights into Afghan culture and the historical context of the story for the first time. I firmly believe that it is through literature that students learn to understand diverse viewpoints and cultivate critical thinking skills.\r\n\r\nFurthermore, reading The Kite Runner will enhance my students' literacy and comprehension skills. We will engage in discussions, analyze characters, and explore the author's use of literary devices. \r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generous contributions. Your commitment to supporting education and fostering a love for reading will have a lasting impact on my students.
