Being able to show my students pictures of things they see in their environment on a daily basis while teaching them what we call it in English has helped them to expand their use and understanding of the English language. The look of understanding and the head shakes when I show them a picture and then tell them the name of the object is wonderful. I get to see the \"light bulb\" turn on for them over and over again. Their understanding is so much more concrete when they can associate a word with a picture. My students come from all over the world and most are refugees, so being able to speak and understand English is detrimental to their future success in our country. They are eager to learn and want to become proficient in English as quickly as possible. \r\nYour donation has already impacted over 100 students and will continue to impact hundreds more to come. The first next boards and feeling boards help students communicate more effectively and stay focused and on task. \r\n We use many of the materials as tools to help achieve goals or to practice skills for retention. My students have learned how to become more independent by choosing task bins with items they can work on at their seat and their own pace.\r\n We have used the file folder games to practice new phonics and math skills such as letter sound correspondence, high frequency words, short and long vowel word practice, number recognition, operations, measurement, and geometry. They learn to work with a partner, follow game rules, and practice new skills. Everyone loved earning \"Fun Friday\" time. The two favorite activities were using a directed drawing online video or creating their own art on the canvases and the blank puzzles. They spent so much time drawing and coloring on these that each project took two Fridays to complete. \r\nThe play foam and beads were also used many times. The foam made for a great midday brain break as well as a Friday activity. Students used the beads and laces and pipe cleaners to make necklaces and bracelets for themselves and their families. \r\nAll of these materials made great, fun fine motor activities. The students looked forward to the surprise of each activity that they earned on Fridays. Students have been responsible for distributing flyers received from our school office into each student mailbox slot. They pick up their morning work from a tray each day. Additional papers are taken from and handed into the trays on a daily basis. Students used the pencils every day throughout the year. They were so happy when they filled up the rows with stickers, so they could receive a small reward. Bringing the sticker charts home to show their families made the students proud!\r\n\r\nThe hall pass lanyards have traveled the school daily with students. They were perfect for letting other staff members know the students had permission to be in the hallway.\r\n\r\nSanitizer wipes and Kleenex were used, especially during cold and flu season to help keep everyone healthy and prevent the spread of germs. \r\n\r\nWe are very grateful to you for supporting us!
