When we received the books, I asked the students how many of them had never had a new book before. Most of them had never had the experience of opening a brand new read! There hasn't been a day in my classroom this year when multiple students haven't asked to have time at the end of our group to read the books or for me to read some of the books to them. The books has given them motivation to finish our reading lessons so we can read together and inspired them to work harder than they ever thought they could so that they can read the books independently.\r\n\r\nThe students in my classroom this year are in 2nd-5th grades and many of them don't know how to read at all. Beginning last year, my school started using the Wilson Reading System and Wilson Fundations and the students I taught experienced tremendous growth in their reading skills. The students I am working with this year were thrilled when they found out they would be working with me because they saw how much their peers grew last year. Sitting in tgg her book center helps the pre-k students build a lifelong love for reading by offering a quiet, comfortable space separate from louder play areas.\r\nWhen the Pre-K students saw the large boxes sent through DonorsChoose they were incredibly excited and could not believe all the new resources they received. They were ready to tear the boxes open and see what was inside. We have a lot of students that needed to okay with the sensory toys to help them cope with their learning needs.\r\nSensory toys are tools designed to stimulate senses—touch, sight, sound, smell, movement, and body awareness—to help children and adults regulate emotions, reduce anxiety, and improve focus.
