It's been inspiring to watch them take these coping skills and apply them independently as they navigate both academic challenges and social situations.\r\n\r\nOne of the most impactful moments came when we used the Lakeshore Making Good Choices Match-Ups to explore various scenarios and decision-making. The students worked in small groups, matching choices with positive outcomes. This activity led to some wonderful conversations about problem-solving, making good choices, and the importance of kindness and cooperation. It was heartwarming to see my students not only learning from the materials but also genuinely caring for one another as they discussed the best ways to handle different social situations.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue to build on these lessons by reinforcing emotional regulation strategies and adding more complex coping skills as part of our social-emotional curriculum. Students will engage in more role-play exercises using the Feelings and Emotions Cards and Busy Book, practicing how to recognize, name, and express their feelings in healthy ways. Gears! kit was a huge hit as students began attaching gears to the board, watching them spin and discovering how their actions affected the motion of the entire gear system. It was wonderful to see them experimenting, problem-solving, and learning about cause and effect in a fun, interactive way. They loved how they could create their own moving gear structures and were captivated by how different gear sizes and connections created different patterns and motions.\r\n\r\nThe Sensory Fidget Kit has been equally valuable in supporting emotional regulation and focus. We use the fidget tools during moments when students need a calming activity, such as after transitions or when preparing for group work. It's been amazing to watch students use the sensory tools to regain their focus and calm their emotions. They are now more self-aware and better equipped to manage their feelings, which has contributed to a more positive and productive learning environment.\r\n\r\nA memorable moment from this project was when a group of students used the Snap Together pieces to build a collaborative structure. They worked together to piece together a large, intricate model, discussing and negotiating as they created. The teamwork, problem-solving, and communication involved in completing the structure was remarkable. It was a perfect example of how play can reinforce critical STEM concepts such as engineering, spatial reasoning, and collaboration.\r\n\r\nLooking forward, we are excited to continue building with these resources.
