I am able to fit 8 students at the table and use it daily for various things. I bring students to the table for reading by grade level with students who are unable to do the work on their own. We write together, I help them edit their writing and revise their ideas and I monitor their computer work. \r\n\r\nThe table is especially useful for supporting students who are struggling in math. We are currently learning about fractions and so many of them need help at various levels. Fourth graders are learning about equivalent fractions and I need to use manipulatives to help them understand what fractions are larger than 1/2 and which ones are the same. Fifth graders are learning to add fractions and to solve word problems with fractions. Some students need help in reading and understanding the problems. Others need help in drawing the models or understanding why the denominator must be the same when they add the fractions. Having the group table helps me support students at the level they need and check their work when they don't need as much help. \r\nThank you for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1786127541613,"projectUrl":"project/teaching-table-target/10336853/","projectTitle":"Teaching Table Target","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3577621_orig.jpg?crop=874,874,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1557788889501","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-ana-garcia"},{"teacherId":3577621,"projectId":10382204,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your donation of clipboards that are white erase boards as well. During math they work out some problems on the white erase boards and show me their answers so that I can quickly assess who needs more help. During social studies and writing we use the clipboard side to work out our own writing as I model. We also use it to walk around during math or science and take notes when collecting data. The blue plastic folders that you also purchased for us we are currently using to store our social studies worksheets and articles. Students take home articles and some worsheets for homework. We are also allowed to use the information they gather during assessments so having the sheet protectors helps them to keep their information organized and visible when they need it. All of the items you purchased help keep us organized and help us save time. Each student has a pouch that holds pens, pencils, highlighters etc. That way I dont' need to pass them out every time and they don't have to dig through their desks for the items. I do have to remind a few to put their things away in the propre place but it really helps me to train them to be organized. Hungry students cannot learn or focus. I usually offer the snacks as we go out to recess. About 3 of my 26 students bring their own snacks sometimes so they don't always choose to take one. However, the majority of families in my class are struggling and cannot send snacks for their students on a daily basis. I will continue to purchase fruits for them. However, fruit doesn't last and sometimes I am too tired to remember so having a back up snack is great. I chose snacks that are lower in sugar and healthier than what they would normally choose.
