The Bass Chime Bars are easy to play and they help my students play accurately. The children experience joy every time they use the mallet to play the low sounds of the Sonor Orff Bass Bars. \r\n\r\nThank you for your contributions to this project! My students are learning their letters and shapes, how to spell their names, and how to make patterns. This light table makes learning so much fun!\r\n\r\nAs soon as I introduced these new materials, my students' eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning! They were so excited to start using them. Now they get to explore these resources during center time, and then we use them during small group time to focus on math and reading skills. \r\n\r\nThese materials are great for fostering teamwork, sharing, problem-solving, exploring, and practicing new skills. I can't wait to incorporate the manipulatives into more lessons. These resources will be engaging all year long. We had 18 teams of 3-4 students that participated. Students were required to read each of the books requested in this grant which included: Tornado by Betsy Byars, Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner, Buffalo Before Breakfast by Mary Pope Osborne, Freckle Juice by Judy Blume, and Chocolate Fever by Robert Kimmel Smith. During our battle students were quizzed on these books through eight rounds of competition. With the help of this grant, students were encouraged to read which in turned sparked a love for reading and competition. I heard so many comments of \"this is so fun, I want to do it again next year!\" Teachers brought by students who chose not to participate and those students are now encouraged to join in the future. The students were amazed when they saw the sizes of the instruments! The bass bars are almost as tall as the students are! \r\n\r\nWe immediately used the Bass Bar to play along with a a few of the students favorite children's songs and a few of the school appropriate pop songs by Kidz Bop! They had so much fun playing with the large bars. My students said they felt like they were playing right along with the band on the recording. \r\n\r\nRight now, we are taking turns playing the Bass Bar. Our next steps are to add a second Bass Bar note for students to play using both hands at the same time, or alternate hands for a bass bourdon, or drone of a 5th. It was like Christmas morning when I brought it into the room. My students couldn't wait to get it put together and start using it.\r\n\r\nWe worked together to sort the items for our grocery store and make labels for each section. My students made price tags and loved every minute of just getting everything ready.\r\n\r\nThen it was FINALLY time to start using it! Not only do they get to take turns being the \"shopper\" and the \"worker,\" they get to sharpen their writing skills while making grocery lists. It is so fun to hear their conversations as they use their imaginations. I've heard things like, \"Thank you, sir. Have a good day!\" and \"How can I help you today?\"\r\n\r\nThank you SO much for helping bring this fun learning station to our classroom.
