Your support has truly made a meaningful difference in our learning experience. The combination of engaging articles, interactive online activities, and hands-on reading materials allowed us to explore new topics in exciting and meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe used the magazines for whole group lessons, small team projects, and independent learning on Chromebooks. The students especially loved reading about zoo animals and celebrating St. Patrick's Day through the fun, themed content. We discussed who we would like to give it to, with the thought of Mother's Day coming up, as not all students have a mother in their lives, it was a thoughtful discussion.\r\n\r\nThe students loved digging their hands into the soil, transferring it into their decorated pots, and putting in the seeds. They were so careful to make sure each seed was placed carefully. The students loved watering their plants and even talking to them to get them to grow.\r\n\r\nA group of boys asked if they could read to their plants! That was a twist I hadn't expected, but of course I told them yes! It was adorable to see them holding their pots of soil, as the seeds hadn't sprouted just yet, and reading the new books about plants. I overheard one boy tell his pot that it was going to grow as big as the picture in the book!\r\n\r\nThank you very much for helping the class have this hands-on experience. The fact that my students were excited is an understatement! They were so excited to just receive the box of books, just the box!\r\n\r\nOnce we began to open the different packages, their excitement grew and grew. They have been devouring the books. Each day, a student comes to share that they finished their book and are ready to get another one. This is exactly what a teacher wants to hear! We work so hard to teach the students how to read, but once they have the basics down, they need a lot of practice. I hope that I can create a classroom of students who want to read and enjoy reading. \r\n\r\nWe have two designated times for reading in our classroom. One is \"Moonlight Monday\" and \"Flashlight Friday,\" and these times are sacred. Let me tell you, the students are sure to remind me of these times if I happen to forget!\r\n\r\nYour kindness has helped to create students who love to read and even choose to stay in for recess to read their books!","fullyFundedDate":1741103402421,"projectUrl":"project/chapter-books-at-levels-where-students-c/9138941/","projectTitle":"Chapter Books at Levels Where Students Can Find Success!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Ingles","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3560370"},{"teacherId":3254210,"projectId":8909619,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation to our classroom. Because of these new books, our students have had many more opportunities to read books and improve their comprehension skills through our school's Accelerated Reader (AR) Program. Accelerated Reader is a program where students read books either at home or school and then take comprehension quizzes on those books found in the program. The program really helps students with both reading for pleasure and their comprehension. \r\nStudents are tested in the AR program every school year to determine what level of books they need to read in order to be reading at a level that isn't too easy or too challenging. Each week, classrooms visit the library to check out a leveled book. If they complete their book and take a quiz during the week, then they are able to go back to the library to get another. When students are reading at a lower level, they tend to read through the books faster because the books are shorter. Having more lower level books in the classroom gives them ample opportunities and quick access to more reading and more comprehension quizzes without having to go to the library. Coincidentally, our school's library is currently under construction, making even less book options are available to them in our temporary library location on campus. \r\nIn addition, having more book options in the classrooms make it even more accessible for students to read during small moments where they may have a free moment. For example, students may read when they have time while others are finishing assignments or during testing. Our school just finished their district-wide testing. Having the leveled books available to the students while others were finishing up their tests kept them engaged during this downtime. \r\nOur classroom is a Special Education class for students with mild/moderate learning disabilities. Most of our students are struggling readers and in order to participate in AR they need to read books that are far below grade level in order to practice at their level. For some students this can be potentially embarrassing. Having lower level books inside the classroom helps the students access these books in a place where they are with other students at the same level as them. This minimizes any embarrassment they may encounter being below grade level and allows them a safe space to continue their reading. \r\nOverall, the books have been a big hit! The students noticed the new books on the shelves right away. They were excited to pull the new titles and get into reading. I have seen a large improvement in the students' motivation to read and in their reading scores since receiving the books. \r\nWe finished our district testing for Winter back in December. After analyzing the results, my caseload of 25 students had 17 of them improve their scores for reading. Students will be reassessed on their book levels again at the beginning of March. My guess is that with all of the new opportunities for reading that their book levels will all improve. Thank you for helping feed our hunger for reading! These books have made it so much easier and better for our students to freely choose books at our level.","fullyFundedDate":1733290627604,"projectUrl":"project/fill-our-shelves-with-stories-for-rising/8909619/","projectTitle":"Fill Our Shelves With Stories for Rising Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bohn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3254210_orig.jpg?crop=1440,1440,x243,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1730328269361","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3254210"},{"teacherId":3560370,"projectId":8884205,"letterContent":"The new stools have truly transformed our classroom! One specific area we've been working on is differentiating our instruction to meet the needs of the students. The challenge was fitting more students at our small group table. Changing out our awkward chairs for these amazing stools has allowed us to have 6-8 students in a group where they can all sit around the table with their materials in hand. It's amazing to see how engaged they've been—they're asking insightful questions, collaborating in ways I hadn't seen before, and taking pride in their work.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the big boxes, their faces lit up with excitement. One student, even exclaimed, \"These are so cool!\" That student helped to assemble the stools and he took such pride in his work! \r\n\r\nThe class couldn't wait to dive in, and many stayed after class just to explore further. The enthusiasm has been contagious, with students telling their families and peers about the exciting work they're doing, which is exciting because something as simple as a change in seating has allowed the students to become much more engaged.
