This resource has brought Earth Science to life in a way that textbooks simply cannot. In alignment with NGSS grade 6 standards, our students have been investigating the impact of water flow on landforms, modeling erosion and deposition, and testing variables such as slope, water velocity, and sediment type. By manipulating these factors, students have gained a deeper understanding of how rivers shape landscapes over time—connecting classroom learning to real-world geological processes.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was immediate when students first saw the stream table in action. Many were amazed at how quickly changes occurred, sparking questions like, \"Can we make a delta?\" or \"What happens if we block part of the river?\" This level of curiosity has driven them to think critically, test hypotheses, and adjust their models, fostering both inquiry-based learning and collaboration. As we continue our investigations, students are now designing their own experiments to explore human impacts on waterways, simulating effects of dams, deforestation, and urbanization. Your support has provided them with a tool that makes science engaging, meaningful, and interactive—something they will remember long after they leave our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1731515016715,"projectUrl":"project/stream-into-learning-hands-on-earth-sci/8922945/","projectTitle":"Stream Into Learning: Hands On Earth Science Exploration","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Guidone","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9459082"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_44054","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":371,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":17,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"10.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":79.2,"schoolId":44054,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Oxford Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Oxford Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/connecticut/oxford-public-schools/great-oak-middle-school/44054"}
