Every student in my classroom will receive 32 personal issues to read in class (when included within lessons) and others to take home for supplemental reading. Four new issues are mailed to my school every month, where at least one is used in a lesson focusing around social emotional learning (SEL), science, social studies, and writing. The students are excited to take home every issue and share it with their families.\r\n\r\nThe photos attached are from a lesson to support facts and opinions in writing. We learned different facts about tarsiers, and students had to vote on whether the fact (and photo sometimes) was \"cool, creepy, or cute.\" Students enjoyed partnering up and using hand gestures to support their vote, and then explained it to their neighbors. Afterwards, there was an interactive phonics game that was a big hit! There are also comprehension and extension worksheets as well as videos to support learning.\r\n\r\nOther issues that we discussed including making friends, having good study/work habits, and facts about pumpkins (which was a great lead into our annual Pumpkin Day event). A favorite so far was an article about \"Penny the Fire Pig,\" which aligned perfectly with fire safety talks at school.\r\n\r\nAgain, I would like to thank all of you who contributed to my project.
