However, I was unsure of how the lessons were going to be conducted, so I experimented with my culminating 5th graders. I told them that we would be experimenting with energy using Hot Wheels on the last day of school and 2/3 of the class returned after the culmination to participate. Their excitement and discussion of energy concepts on the last day of school is a good sign of what is to come next year with my 4th graders. \r\n\r\nThe cars, tracks, and other components have given my 5th graders and will give my students next year a culminating activity in learning the fundamentals of kinetic and potential energy. We use the gel boards for word work, and we also use them to share how we are feeling on Mondays. The FingerFocus Highlighter tool has helped my students follow along as they read. The best thing about that tool is that it helps them chunk the sentence so that they can read it fluently. The sound boards are helpful because it reinforces how I show them to spell a word. They have to sound out the word and then graph it based on the sounds.
