Sunshine day is a day where students totally unplug from academic work and take a few minutes for themselves. We played games, we made lemonade, I gave out stickers. Mostly I saw students relax and just be kids for a period.\r\n\r\nHigh schoolers take 8 classes a day, most have an activity, sport, or job they also go to. They are under a lot of pressure so this day means a small window where none of that mattered. Kids were so excited to do a giant crossword, to do a giant mural, to challenge each other in Uno, to play trivia against me, to have a little snack. It is the day they all still ask for.","fullyFundedDate":1746472429987,"projectUrl":"project/sunshine-days-in-high-school-classrooms/9301215/","projectTitle":"Sunshine Days in High School Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Deschamp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp263747_orig.jpg?crop=551,551,x0,y34&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746111335889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/deschamp"},{"teacherId":263747,"projectId":9184851,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for these resources. Engagement plays a key role in student learning and little items help so much to make these things happen. From responding on post it notes to give feedback on posters or build a working definition, to using whiteboards to sketch concepts or respond to review questions, to using the large poster paper to create visual representations of our work; students have used all these tools in my class. In the spring we used them to collect examples of why we study history--reflecting on the whole year and grouping like answers to aid each other in our final writing project. In the first few days of school this year, we used them to construct understanding of what our 6 school agreements look like in our classroom.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to see the materials that no longer just belong to teachers but that are theirs and they are expected to use. You wouldn't think a little thing like different color post it notes matters but it does when you are grouping and regrouping information and examples. They love the large poster paper that looks like what adults use in meetings and take pride in making effective posters.\r\n\r\nMy next steps are continuing engaging students at the end of class with smaller activities with post its and whiteboards to check their understanding; to take the posters we create to the hallways to showcase student learning, and to help students feel supported by the larger community as they use the donated items!","fullyFundedDate":1742929269220,"projectUrl":"project/engagement-in-collegiate-model-classroom/9184851/","projectTitle":"Engagement in Collegiate Model Classrooms","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Deschamp","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp263747_orig.jpg?crop=551,551,x0,y34&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746111335889","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/deschamp"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42849","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1834,"numTeachers":91,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":68,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":25,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":81.2,"schoolId":42849,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Grand Junction High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Grand Junction High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/mesa-county-valley-school-district-51/grand-junction-high-school/42849"}
