These materials were crucial in helping us finish the 2024-2025 school year on a strong note. In fact, we had enough leftover supplies to ensure that every student in my class was fully equipped as they start the 2025-2026 school year!\r\n\r\nThe supplies were used for everything from creative art projects to hands-on learning in science and math. The markers, crayons, and colored pencils helped students visualize and engage with their lessons, while the glue, scissors, and erasers allowed them to refine their work and feel confident in their creativity. The headphones have been invaluable for focused, independent learning, and the tissues have kept us comfortable during cold and allergy seasons.\r\n\r\nYour donation has had a lasting impact, giving students the tools they need to succeed while fostering a sense of pride and ownership in their work. These are essential skills in this day and age; the ability to calm oneself down, regain control over careening emotions, and tap into their inner strength are all important when navigating through the school day! The books provided important lessons about how to develop strong friendships, while also making good choices. Making poor choices to maintain friends is never in a child's best interest! The Calm Down Magic Ball provided new ways to calm oneself down! Together, we would shake the magic ball and then learn a new strategy and practice it immediately. The Pigeon book series was used for part of their morning reading routine, PAWS (Pick a Wonderful Story). I think I loved the Pigeon books just as much as the kids! In addition, to help extend the lesson each student illustrated a pigeon and selected their favorite book from the series to write about. The headphones are awesome. The vibrant color choices and soft cushions have made reading more appealing. They love to listen to stories from Epic. Epic allows students to choose their own audio book. The hand puppet, Pete the Cat, has amped up my Pete the Cat book series that I have in the class library. While reading a book, not just Pete the Cat books, I use the puppet for theatrics and tapping out sounds for phonics drills. The Elf on the Shelf was electrifying! In the month of December, before receiving Elf on the Shelf, students drew their own Elf on the Shelf to display in the classroom. Needless to say, the students were excited to actually have one displayed in the classroom. In addition, the Hispanic and Black History Month books have given them a personal connection, sense of pride, and a \"Yes I Can\" mentality. \r\n\r\nThank you so very much!","fullyFundedDate":1733894281241,"projectUrl":"project/our-daily-read/8995107/","projectTitle":"Our Daily Read","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9867610"},{"teacherId":9719815,"projectId":9064729,"letterContent":"The new flexible seating options have made a huge difference in my first-grade classroom! From the moment my students saw the cozy chairs and stools, their excitement was clear—they couldn't wait to try them out. One student even said, \"This is the best chair ever!\"\r\n\r\nNow, during small group instruction, my students are more engaged and focused because they have comfortable seating that meets their needs. The stools around the teacher table make it easier for them to join me for reading and math groups, while the cozy chairs have turned our reading center into a favorite spot for independent reading.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was when a student who usually struggles with sitting still was able to stay focused during an entire small group lesson simply because he had a stool to wiggle on. The word-building tiles are providing hands-on learning opportunities, while the decodable readers are helping them gain confidence as they progress in their reading skills. My students and I have been using these resources in meaningful ways across multiple subjects. One standout moment was during a recent reading lesson, where the students used the highlighters to identify sight words and key details in a story. They loved the process of marking the text with bright colors and felt like \"real researchers.\" This simple tool made the lesson more engaging and helped them focus on important concepts. The crayons and pencils have also been invaluable during our writing and art activities. For example, the students recently created illustrations to accompany their personal narratives. Having high-quality supplies allowed them to bring their stories to life with vibrant colors and detailed drawings.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, their excitement was palpable. Their faces lit up, and there was an audible buzz of enthusiasm as they unpacked the supplies. One student exclaimed, \"It's like Christmas for our desks!\" Others immediately began testing out the crayons and marveling at the sharper pencils compared to our older ones. It was such a heartwarming moment to see how much they appreciated having fresh tools to support their learning. These materials have not only made lessons more enjoyable but have also shown the students that their education is valued.\r\n\r\nThanks to these new resources, we've also been able to plan some exciting next steps for our current lessons and projects. One upcoming project is a collaborative class book where each student will contribute a page about their favorite hobby or interest. They will use the crayons and pencils to create colorful illustrations and decorate their pages, making the book a true work of art. The highlighters will play a role as well, as students will use them during the editing process to focus on proper capitalization and punctuation. This project ties directly into our ELA and social skills goals, encouraging creativity, teamwork, and attention to detail.\r\n\r\nBeyond this project, these supplies are helping us build a stronger foundation in multiple areas of learning. From math activities that incorporate drawing shapes to science experiments that involve labeling diagrams, these tools are being used every day to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our donors. Your contribution has made a tangible difference in my students' learning experience. Every time they reach for a sharp pencil or vibrant crayon, they are reminded that someone cared enough to invest in their education.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity and support. It's amazing to see the smiles on my students' faces and to witness how much more motivated and confident they are in their work. Your kindness is helping my students shine brighter than ever, and we are so grateful!","fullyFundedDate":1733619823039,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials-shipment-2024-12-0/8995684/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials Shipment: 2024-12-07","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Tillman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9719815_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1725056190731","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9719815"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_26843","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":278,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":80,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 3","studentTeacherRatio":"9.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.9,"schoolId":26843,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gordon School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gordon School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/posen-robbins-sch-dist-143-5/gordon-school/26843"}
