They've become some of my students' absolute favorites because they help them understand their feelings, build confidence, and see how amazing it is to be kind and unique.\r\n\r\nEach book teaches something powerful in a way that really connects with second graders. The Invisible String shows them how love keeps us connected even when we're apart. My Body Sends a Signal helps them recognize emotions in their bodies and learn healthy ways to respond. My Beautiful Brain and My Brain Is Magic remind them that their brains grow stronger every time they try something new. The Magical Yet and Big have been big favorites because they teach kids it's okay to make mistakes and that everyone grows at their own pace.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is one of the best parts of the day. During read-alouds, students gather on the rug and love to stop and talk about how the story connects to them. When we read Big, several students shared times they felt \"too much\" or \"not enough,\" and that turned into an incredible conversation about confidence and self-acceptance. With The Invisible String, one student talked about missing a family member who moved away, and the class really came together to support them.\r\n\r\nThese books are also available for students to read on their own. We have a \"Feelings Shelf\" where they can grab one when they need a reset or just want to revisit a favorite story. One student who struggles with frustration now chooses My Body Sends a Signal whenever he needs a moment to calm down. Another student who used to be shy about reading aloud picked The Magical Yet to share with the class because she \"believed in her Yet.\" Those moments mean everything to me as a teacher.\r\n\r\nThese books have truly changed the atmosphere in our room. They've given my students new ways to talk about emotions, practice empathy, and see that learning isn't just about reading words—it's about understanding yourself and others. I'm so thankful for the donors who helped make this possible. Your support filled our shelves with books that teach kindness, confidence, and resilience every single day.","fullyFundedDate":1753726718763,"projectUrl":"project/books-with-heartbeats/9438812/","projectTitle":"Books With Heartbeats!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. LeGrant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9109709_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x0,y384&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1717967619863","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9109709"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_12313","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":627,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":46,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":46,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"17.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":72.8,"schoolId":12313,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Goodwin Frazier Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Goodwin Frazier Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/comal-independent-school-district/goodwin-frazier-elementary-school/12313"}
