While my classroom does not hold 20+ students at a time, it does support students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in a small group setting. As a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) I target IEP goals with students regarding their communication needs. These needs can be for expressive or receptive language disabilities, articulation disorders, and fluency abnormalities to name a few. \r\nResearch has shown, and continues to show, that play is the biggest precursor to language skills for younger students; therefore, the new toys, such as the surprise polar animals, hedgehog, and tactile dog house are excellent resources for play based language therapy. My students have been loving the hands on activities for our sessions--all thanks to you!\r\nAdditionally, my older students have been enjoying reading our new books, especially How to Catch a Yeti. They love taking turns reading to one another and answering text related questions. They also have enjoyed working on learning new vocabulary words from their new books.\r\nOverall, words simply cannot express how grateful my students and I are for your assistance and generosity. For example, during math while we are working on a problem we can now do a showdown and everyone has a chance to participate and we want 100% student engagement as one of our school goals. So those white boards come in handy when it comes to that. \r\nThe organizer is helping the kids by being able to find work when they need it if they ever miss a day or need an extra copy.
