I have been able to utilize the resources in multiple grades and the students were engaged, excited and didn't want to stop! One of the first investigations students participated in was building the LEGO race cars. Students collaborated in teams and made a plan for their car (would it be low, would it be higher, long and sleek or short and heavy). Next they had time to build their designs. Most had to alter their plans to make the build what they wanted just as scientists and engineers do in their daily work. Next we had a competition. The goal was to see whose car traveled the most distance. We ran out of time before students had a chance to revise their design and alter the structure to increase their distance, but they were excited and talking about it!\r\n\r\nNot only did my students love the Lego Race car STEM unit, but they have also been super motivated and excited to use the LEGO SPIKE robotics kit that was donated. I have not been able to have a whole class work on this kit since I only have one at this time, but when a class has earned free time for stellar behavior, the LEGO SPIKE kit is the most desired choice activity. It has been wonderful because if a team of students working on the LEGO SPIKE reach STEP 12 of 20. The next class I have respectfully continues their work and keeps building. The discussions and problems solving and pure joy students have when working with SPIKE is phenomenal. Thank you for allowing my classes (grades 3-6th) to enjoy this robotics experience. I am very thankful and grateful for your donations as are my students.","fullyFundedDate":1723162357217,"projectUrl":"project/spike-lego-buildathon-challenge/8570115/","projectTitle":"Spike LEGO Buildathon Challenge","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hildy","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9256241_orig.jpg?crop=576,576,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1696683149736","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9256241"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_66220","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":435,"numTeachers":30,"percentFrplEligible":16,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":78,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":10,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"14.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":42.9,"schoolId":66220,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gold Camp Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gold Camp Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/cheyenne-mountain-school-district-12/gold-camp-elementary-school/66220"}
