Your kindness has made an immediate difference, and I am truly grateful for your support. It means so much to know that there are people who care about creating a positive learning environment for our students.\r\n\r\nThe new chairs and pillows have helped make our classroom feel more like a home. The students love having a space that feels warm, welcoming, and comfortable. They are excited to come in each day and settle into their new seating options, and it has created a calm and inviting atmosphere for learning.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only improved the physical space but has also helped students feel valued and supported. Thank you again for making such a meaningful impact on our classroom. We appreciate you more than you know.","fullyFundedDate":1758846552618,"projectUrl":"project/its-class-home-not-classroom/9667672/","projectTitle":"It’s Class Home Not Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Stanton","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8805894"},{"teacherId":9984582,"projectId":9783871,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generosity and support. Because of your contributions, my Special Education classroom has undergone a transformation that is far more meaningful than simply adding new furniture or décor. You have helped create a space where students feel safe, calm, and ready to learn—something that is truly invaluable for the young people I serve.\r\n\r\nBefore this project was funded, my classroom felt dull, harsh, and uninviting. The fluorescent lighting, bare floors, and rigid seating created an environment that didn't match the emotional and sensory needs of my students. Many of my learners struggle with attention, anxiety, or sensory sensitivities, and our previous setup often aggravated those challenges. Instruction felt harder than it needed to be because the room itself worked against the sense of peace and stability we were trying to cultivate.\r\n\r\nThanks to your support, that has changed completely.\r\n\r\nThe new rugs have softened the room both visually and physically. Students now have comfortable places to sit during independent reading, small-group instruction, and calming breaks. Many of them prefer to settle onto the rug with a book or a task, and it has led to more engagement and fewer behavior escalations during transitions. The rugs have unexpectedly become gathering spaces—places where students feel grounded and connected.\r\n\r\nThe addition of soft lighting from the lamps has made perhaps the most immediate and powerful change. By minimizing harsh overhead lights, our classroom now feels warm and soothing. Students have commented unprompted that the room feels \"cozy,\" \"less stressful,\" and \"easier to think in.\" One student even said, \"It feels like home in here.\" For children who often struggle with regulation, the gentle lighting creates a sense of calm that supports focus, patience, and emotional safety.\r\n\r\nThe new bookcase has allowed me to organize and display our classroom library in a way that is both accessible and visually appealing. Students are choosing books more frequently, exploring new genres, and taking pride in keeping the shelves neat. It has become a centerpiece of our classroom—an invitation to read, explore, and discover. Several reluctant readers have begun picking out books during downtime simply because the space feels inviting.\r\n\r\nThese items have done more than change the physical appearance of the room. They have changed how students feel in the room. My classroom has become a place where students can breathe deeply when overwhelmed, where they can engage in learning without feeling overstimulated, and where they can take pride in the space they spend so much of their day in. The new environment has contributed to improved focus, smoother transitions, and more positive interactions between peers.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, my students feel cared for. They see these items not just as \"things,\" but as a sign that people outside our classroom believe in their potential and want them to have a beautiful, functional, and comforting space to learn. That message alone is powerful.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping me create a classroom that reflects my students' dignity, needs, and strengths. Your generosity has made a daily, tangible difference in their lives, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1759620486684,"projectUrl":"project/ms-mitchells-special-safe-space/9783871/","projectTitle":"Ms. Mitchell's Special Safe Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Mitchell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9984582"},{"teacherId":2166786,"projectId":9510426,"letterContent":"Our students were thrilled to receive the new materials! The excitement was contagious as they unboxed everything and immediately took ownership by creating classroom rules for how to use and care for our new resources.\r\n\r\nWe've already put the whiteboards, markers, and microfiber cloths to great use during our \"Board Meetings.\" In these sessions, students brainstorm ideas in small groups, collaborating on their whiteboards where everyone can contribute and see the group's thinking. Once each group reaches a consensus, they share their boards with the class during gallery walks or by presenting directly to their peers.\r\n\r\nTo stay organized, students use their group folders to collect and store their written work and ideas. We've even used the sticky pad presentation paper to record class guidelines and track our progress on ongoing projects. These materials have truly helped transform our classroom into a more interactive, student-led learning environment.\r\n\r\nAs we move into our major NGSS state science labs, these tools will continue to support collaboration and hands-on learning. Students will be able to capture their thinking on paper, refine their ideas as a team, and communicate their results clearly. We're so grateful for these amazing resources and can't wait to see how they continue to inspire our students' curiosity and teamwork throughout the year!","fullyFundedDate":1755840112085,"projectUrl":"project/design-build-share-engineering-minds/9510426/","projectTitle":"Design, Build, Share: Engineering Minds in Action","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Morgante Licul","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2166786_orig.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1761747055486","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2166786"},{"teacherId":4442819,"projectId":8857548,"letterContent":"Our equity club has had the incredible opportunity to read books with elementary school students, fostering a love of reading and helping to build essential literacy skills. Many of the books we've introduced to the younger students focus on diverse characters, experiences, and themes, which not only promote empathy but also open the door for important conversations about identity, community, and social justice. These texts help young readers develop a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, while also introducing vital skills such as comprehension, vocabulary building, and critical thinking.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like a collaborative, engaging experience. The high school students in our club read aloud, discuss the storylines, and ask the younger students questions to encourage them to think about the text in new ways. It's not just about reading the words—it's about connecting the story to the students' lives and encouraging them to express their thoughts. Some of our elementary readers, especially those who are still developing confidence in their skills, have particularly enjoyed these sessions because they see themselves in the stories we share, and they feel supported by older peers who are invested in their learning. For these students, the act of reading together has become a space of excitement and validation, sparking their curiosity and motivating them to explore new books on their own.","fullyFundedDate":1729523941122,"projectUrl":"project/reading-for-all-promoting-diversity-thr/8857548/","projectTitle":"Reading for All: Promoting Diversity Through Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Santos","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4442819_272x272.png?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1509496310881","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4442819"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_96262","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":613,"numTeachers":38,"percentFrplEligible":77,"percentAsian":22,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":9,"percentIndigenous":4,"percentLatinx":52,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":91.8,"schoolId":96262,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Goddard High School of Comm Arts & Technical on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Goddard High School of Comm Arts & Technical","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/goddard-high-school-of-community-arts-tech/96262"}
