This experience has been nothing short of transformative for me as an educator and for the multilingual students I serve.\r\n\r\nThe Fellowship empowered me to grow as a multilingual teacher, equipping me with powerful strategies, insights, and tools to better support English Language Learners. I have become more aware of the challenges ELL students face in American schools, and I am now more prepared than ever to advocate for equity and opportunity in the classroom.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, I was able to fully engage in the program, access essential resources, connect with other educators, and build a professional portfolio that I am proud to share. I also have the privilege to attend the end-of-course celebration, where I will reflect on the accomplishments and successes that took place in my classroom—successes made possible by your support.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, this journey has helped me build stronger connections with families, foster more inclusive learning environments, and offer richer, more meaningful learning experiences to my students. Your generosity didn't just help one teacher; it changed the trajectory of many students' lives.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in the power of education and in the potential of teachers like me.","fullyFundedDate":1733565033281,"projectUrl":"project/working-with-multilingual-students/8593465/","projectTitle":"Working With Multilingual Students","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Schreiner","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9294233_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1726673971105","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9294233"},{"teacherId":9239921,"projectId":8579471,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to my STEM classroom. All of my students, K-5, have benefitted from your generous donations! I strive to make my class hands on for numerous reasons, and this has been extremely helpful.\r\n\r\nFor example, the Keva planks have been loved by all--I definitely need to get more! They have been fantastic for allowing younger students to fine tune their motor skills, while allowing older students to focus on structures, teamwork, and the engineering process.\r\n\r\nMy fourth grade classes have spent a lot of time focusing on electricity, and absolutely adore the snap circuit sets. They have been absolutely crucial to their understanding of how circuits work (and don't work) and are an extremely fun way to learn and get to work with their hands, and in teams with their classmates.\r\n\r\nThank you again for these generous contributions. They are motivated to finish their work on time. The classroom behaviors have improved a lot. Because of the essentials provided by the wonderful doners, my students have not been getting injured or has not made a lot of nurse visits. \r\n\r\nLastly, the stand-up desk has helped my students tremendously! When my students saw the boxes, their excitement over the new items was difficult to contain.\r\n We have now implemented a regular \"game day\" using the literacy board games during our small group reading blocks and the teamwork that I see during these times is priceless. Students listen attentively to their peers read each card and are cooperatively helping each other if anyone is unsure of a word or an answer. They enjoy our game days so much and the learning that is occurring, both in reading skills and social skills, is so uplifting to see!\r\n The white boards are also a useful tool since all of my students can participate simultaneously in activities like encoding (spelling) and syllable division. These skills are essential with my 4th-8th grade students, as they come across multi syllabic words in all of their content areas. I've already noticed them becoming more confident in dividing and pronouncing these longer words, and becoming more fluent readers.\r\n All of the students love to use the IPad for everything from word blending drills, to looking up word morphology to figure out the meaning of a word. The IPad has been especially beneficial to me during assessment time. I can use it while the student reads, and then their score is instantly calculated, which means that they can get immediate feedback on which skills may need more work, and the skills that they excelled at. \r\n All of the products provided for this project have given my students new and fun ways to explore and gain reading skills. My students were thrilled when they learned that they had received materials for our Yarn Works knitting and crochet club! In fact they cheered quite loudly when I showed them everything that we had received, which included new knitting needles, crochet hooks, and yarn! Most of my students are on free and reduced lunch, and so without this donation, most of them would not be able to purchase their own materials to participate! \r\n\r\nUpon receiving our materials, I was able to teach students how to begin yarn projects. Nearly all of my students had never even held a knitting needle or crochet hook in their lives! But, they were incredibly eager to learn. Over the course of the semester, they were able to progress to where they were able to complete a small project. While many of them became frustrated at one time or another, they were also able to learn patience and persistence in continuing on a task they were not initially \"good\" at it.
