My students were able to create multiple projects out of the supplies that were donated. They were very excited when they saw all of the new materials that were introduced to them. Unfortunately, the original project was not working out in our favor so my students had to pivot in order to still create an artwork that they were proud of. Instead of Altered Books, my students suggested to create a project that connected to the country they were studying in class. They created House Lanterns instead of Altered Books. These lanterns signify the importance of spreading light, peace, and joy during the holiday season to all. My students were able to connect to the Haitian culture while adding their own identity to this artwork. With so many leftover materials, my second grade class was able to use some of the new materials to create their own 3D clay project. My second graders were filled with joy when they saw that they have new clay tools to sculpt their Haitian geckos with. Both of these projects were presented at our schools International Day assembly that focused on portraying the importance of the country Haiti.","fullyFundedDate":1727463005113,"projectUrl":"project/altered-books/8578177/","projectTitle":"Altered Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jessica","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9633638"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_108990","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":450,"numTeachers":21,"percentFrplEligible":20,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":40,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":37,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":94.4,"schoolId":108990,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Global Village Academy - Douglas on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Global Village Academy - Douglas","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/global-village-academy-collaborative/global-village-academy-douglas-county/108990"}
