This new collection is a game-changer—it allows me to tailor content to the specific needs of each group, whether they are working on managing big feelings, conflict resolution, or strengthening friendships.\r\nThe students are absolutely loving the new materials! The hands-on activities, like the collaborative brick building challenges, immediately draw them in and help break the ice. Similarly, the short story discussions from the scenario books have sparked genuine, thoughtful conversations, helping students practice empathy and perspective-taking in a safe space.\r\nI feel so much more prepared and confident knowing I have these resources at my fingertips to support social and emotional learning. This is more than just a purchase; it is a long-term investment in my students' well-being. These resources will continue to benefit new groups of students for many years, ultimately impacting hundreds of young lives.\r\nThank you again for believing in me and in the critical importance of small group counseling. Not only did the project positively impact the recipients, it also benefited the student helpers, staff and parents. The books selected were fiction and non-fiction culturally relevant books that provided students with a sense of knowledge and pride and confidence related to their self image and presentation.\r\n You can always tell a real reader! My test was by asking a student the simple question, \"Do you like to Read?\" Without fail the true leaders' eyes would get bigger, light up with the emphatic response, \"Yes, I love to read\". These reactive images confirmed the value of this project. Most important students could not believe that the books were FREE and once complete they could return and get another Book to add to their personal library!\r\n The project also included opportunities to train students to take charge of the actual implementation of the project. A team of students on a monthly basis were responsible for marketing the project using our schoolwide PA system, selecting books, set up of the area, presentation and overviews of books, and monitoring organized traffic flow. The \"ambassadors\" learned to differentiate between social peer interactions and quality customer service demonstrating work ethics.","fullyFundedDate":1633455021655,"projectUrl":"project/great-reads-on-wheels/5694585/","projectTitle":"Great Reads On Wheels","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. C.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4590229_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1502431784945","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4590229"},{"teacherId":9560773,"projectId":9019217,"letterContent":"A novella of linked short stories, Seed Folks helps teach students about cultural awareness and empathy. Taking care of plants and the environment teaches responsibility and the significance of caring for the Earth.\r\n\r\nStudents are finding the stories interesting and easy to follow even though in the beginning, each one introduces a completely new character. My students and I are thrilled to have these new resources that allow us to explore, create, and learn in ways we never could before.\r\nOne of the first projects we embarked on was creating collaborative printmaking pieces using the Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plates. Students experimented with layering textures and colors, combining natural objects like leaves with stencils they designed. They were amazed at how each print was unique, sparking creativity and collaboration.\r\nThe iPads have become indispensable tools for our digital portfolios. Students use them to photograph their work, reflect on their process, and even create stop-motion animations to explore storytelling through art. The ability to combine traditional and digital techniques has opened new doors for innovation.\r\nOne memorable moment was when we introduced the rubber carving blocks and tools for stamp making. A sixth-grader, who is typically shy about sharing her work, lit up when her carved design—an intricate mandala—printed perfectly on her first try. That moment of pride and accomplishment was unforgettable.\r\nWhen the boxes arrived and I revealed the supplies, the kids erupted in cheers and gasps. The kids were especially curious and excited to try the Gelli Plates. Students eagerly volunteered to help organize the new materials and couldn't wait to start using them.\r\nWe are looking forward to making a community-themed mural project, using the acrylic paint markers to add fine details and bold designs. Students will be creating symbols that represent unity and diversity, combining their individual contributions into one cohesive piece.\r\nNext, in the spring, we plan to use the Nature Print Paper to create cyanotype designs inspired by local plants. This will tie into a lesson about how art and science intersect, helping students appreciate the beauty and structure of the natural world.\r\nYour support has made all of this possible, and I can't thank you enough for believing in my students and their creative potential.
