Your support for our project, \"Storytelling Math for Young Learners,\" means the world to us.\r\n\r\nBecause of your thoughtfulness, our child-accessible classroom library is now stocked with amazing storybooks that highlight everyday math in kid-friendly ways. These aren't just any books; they're packed with diverse, relatable characters who make math concepts come alive! My 4K friends see themselves in these stories.\r\n\r\nThis is not an exaggeration. In fact, the photos (that I shared with you) illustrate one example. Over the course of several days, I noticed that one girl in our classroom community in particular kept going back to the same book during her free play time. Finally it clicked...I realized the character in the story had similar physical characteristics as the girl in our classroom. Since I didn't question her, I cannot know for certain, but I strongly believe that the sweetie saw herself represented in the story.\r\n\r\nWith the help of these books, my 4K friends better understand that math is everywhere – not just on a page, but in patterns, problems, and possibilities in their own everyday lives. But even more than that...the books provide excellent vocabulary exposure and reinforcement. For instance, another girl in our class was proud to (repeatedly) point out to me that some our of focus vocabulary words (that we learned during our literacy block) were represented in the illustrations of one of the math storybooks. Talk about cross-curricular application!\r\n\r\nThese engaging read-alouds will help my students build crucial early math skills and, even better, gain the confidence to use what they learn in the real world. You're helping us create a fun, welcoming space where every child feels smart and excited about math.\r\n\r\nWe're so grateful for your kindness and for believing in our students. I knew it was time to switch things up!\r\n\r\nSo I asked my students to brainstorm and share their ideas on what topic we should study next in this space. Many awesome ideas bubbled to the surface, but after a class vote, the winning idea was . . . (drumroll please) VOLCANOES!\r\n\r\nThis was exciting for us teachers, too, because we have never had students (in the past) express interest in volcanoes. The new topic would breathe new life into our Science Center. However, since this is a brand new topic, we had zero resources. \r\n\r\nThis is where you saved the day! Because of your support, we have TPT gift cards available that allow us to purchase resources on topics that our kids have expressed a curiousity around, like volcanoes. Needless to say, we grabbed some resources to set up our new volcano-themed space. The Science Center will officially re-open tomorrow and our 4K friends are eager to make, explore, and learn all about volcanoes. \r\n\r\nYou made that happen! Thank you so much for supporting our young learners and their curious minds.\r\n\r\nPS - We have acquired other materials, including magnet mazes, a fidgets social story, and a fall-themed Boom Card slide deck for working on patterns. With more funds available on the gift cards, many more resources will be available to us in the near future!","fullyFundedDate":1730428522783,"projectUrl":"project/tpt-resources-unlock-playful-learning/8521591/","projectTitle":"TPT Resources Unlock Playful Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Unger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2216575_orig.jpg?crop=1967,1967,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1624238545511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-amber-unger"},{"teacherId":2216575,"projectId":8934413,"letterContent":"It is no exaggeration to say that our Light Table is the most popular spot in our 4K classroom these days. Why? Well, the new STEM materials (that you so generously helped to purchase) are breathing new life into this particular learning space. My students have shared that they have built letters of the alphabet, cities, cakes, robots, and other imaginative creations using the new additions. They are particularly fond of stacking the materials to see how high they can go.\r\n\r\nOur 4K friends are exploring STEM concepts and skils, like constructing and testing structures, problem-solving creatively, sorting and counting objects, extending and creating patterns, developing spatial awareness, and so much more!\r\n\r\nSide note: In full transparency, I did want to let you know that Amazon ran out of stock for the translucent magnetic blocks. For this reason, we had to order non-translucent magnetic blocks. The kids are loving this set in our Magnets Center.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, *THANK YOU* for your thoughtful donation to our learning environment.
