The reaction from my 4K friends was immediate excitement. As soon as they saw the bright colors and soft textures, they were asking, \"Can we touch them?\" and \"Is that my letter?\" It was amazing to see them so eager to get their hands on educational tools.\r\n\r\nWe have wasted no time putting these to use. Recently, we played a game called \"My Turn, Your Turn, Trade\" using the giant Alphapals. The kids had to 1) find a partner, 2) identify the letter they were holding, 3) listen to their partner, 4) trade letters, then 5) find a new partner and play again. The energy in the room was electric! Because the giant letters are soft and durable, I didn't have to worry about them getting dropped or squeezed too hard or lost. My students could just focus on the fun of the learning game.\r\n\r\nThis project has truly brought literacy to life for us. The Alphapals will continue to be well-loved not just this school year and with this group of students, but many more to come. Thank you for making our learning interactive and so much fun!","fullyFundedDate":1761662064063,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-alphabet-fun-for-little-learner/9488558/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Alphabet Fun for Little Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Unger","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2216575_orig.jpg?crop=1967,1967,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1624238545511","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-amber-unger"},{"teacherId":2216575,"projectId":9237912,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity! Your support for our project, \"Storytelling Math for Young Learners,\" means the world to us.\r\n\r\nBecause of your thoughtfulness, our child-accessible classroom library is now stocked with amazing storybooks that highlight everyday math in kid-friendly ways. These aren't just any books; they're packed with diverse, relatable characters who make math concepts come alive! My 4K friends see themselves in these stories.\r\n\r\nThis is not an exaggeration. In fact, the photos (that I shared with you) illustrate one example. Over the course of several days, I noticed that one girl in our classroom community in particular kept going back to the same book during her free play time. Finally it clicked...I realized the character in the story had similar physical characteristics as the girl in our classroom. Since I didn't question her, I cannot know for certain, but I strongly believe that the sweetie saw herself represented in the story.\r\n\r\nWith the help of these books, my 4K friends better understand that math is everywhere – not just on a page, but in patterns, problems, and possibilities in their own everyday lives. But even more than that...the books provide excellent vocabulary exposure and reinforcement. For instance, another girl in our class was proud to (repeatedly) point out to me that some our of focus vocabulary words (that we learned during our literacy block) were represented in the illustrations of one of the math storybooks. Talk about cross-curricular application!\r\n\r\nThese engaging read-alouds will help my students build crucial early math skills and, even better, gain the confidence to use what they learn in the real world. You're helping us create a fun, welcoming space where every child feels smart and excited about math.\r\n\r\nWe're so grateful for your kindness and for believing in our students.
