It seems as soon as they go on the shelf, they go back out again. Having books of interest for students is so important; it helps build and fuel a life long love of reading in them. As we know, life long readers are life long learners. \r\n\r\nNot only are my students building a love of reading with your donation, they are building their creativity and engineering know-how with the new Lego sets. Lego sets help the students learn to problem solve and how parts can work together to accomplish a goal or build a structure. It also helps them be more detail oriented. This school year I am using these supplies as a way to encourage group problem solving, in math and other subjects. Just yesterday, as a challenge when work was finished, students worked in groups to solve a riddle using the whiteboard side of the easels. They really utilized having a larger and shareable surface to work on. Additionally, we have been using the poster side of the easels to learn make our class expectations and learn about how everyone would want their classroom, classmate, and teacher to act. We also have used them to collect brainstorm ideas as we learn about responsibility, respect, teamwork, leadership, and other qualities to start our year off right.
