After years of use by countless students, it had begun to show significant wear and tear. The previous teacher who owned the bookshelf planned to discard it, but I wanted to extend its life. I purchased felt and refurbished the shelves to make them more inviting and functional for my students. While this helped temporarily, the bookshelf continued to deteriorate over time. The shelves became unstable, parts of the unit began to loosen, and it could no longer safely support the weight of our classroom library.\r\n\r\nWithout a functional bookshelf, many of our books had to be stored in bins and stacks throughout the classroom. This made it more difficult for students to independently browse and select books during reading time and created challenges in keeping our classroom library organized and easily accessible.\r\n\r\nThe privacy folders have also made a tremendous difference in our classroom. The first time we used them during an assessment, students were noticeably more focused. One student shared that the folder helped them \"not look around and just think.\" These folders have helped create a calm and respectful testing environment where students feel confident demonstrating their learning. Even during regular classroom assignments, some students request to use them because they help minimize distractions and improve concentration.\r\n\r\nThe snacks have been incredibly valuable in keeping students energized and ready to learn throughout the day. Having access to snacks helps ensure that all students can remain focused and engaged, particularly during longer instructional periods. I have noticed a positive difference in both students' attention and overall mood when they know they have a snack available if needed.\r\n\r\nThe cleaning supplies have also supported the development of responsibility and pride within our classroom community. Students take ownership of helping keep our learning environment clean by wiping tables, organizing materials, and maintaining shared spaces. These routines help create a healthy, welcoming classroom where students can focus on learning.\r\n\r\nThese resources have helped us continue building independence and responsibility in our classroom. With our newly organized bookshelf, students began participating in book talks, sharing recommendations and fostering excitement about reading with their classmates. The privacy folders have supported students as they strengthen their writing skills by providing focused spaces for drafting, revising, and completing assessments. My goal is to continue creating a classroom environment where students feel confident, capable, and excited to learn for years to come.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and support. Your contribution has made a meaningful and lasting impact on our classroom and the students who learn in it each day.","fullyFundedDate":1772457947317,"projectUrl":"project/snacks-space-and-stories-for-1st-grade/10065223/","projectTitle":"Snacks, Space, and Stories for 1st graders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Juarez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10420514"},{"teacherId":9140672,"projectId":9832494,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our classroom snack shelf is now stocked and ready each afternoon! We've created a simple routine where students can quietly grab a snack during our independent reading or small group time if they need one. This small addition has already made a big difference. Instead of seeing tired faces and wandering attention after lunch, I'm seeing students stay focused during math centers, participate more in discussions, and finish their work with confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the snack bin, their eyes lit up. Several students said, \"Is this really for us?\" and \"We get to have these when we need them?\" It was such a meaningful moment. Beyond the excitement, there was a sense of relief. They know that if their stomach starts to growl during a long afternoon, they have what they need to stay comfortable and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nWith this support in place, we're able to fully focus on our current goalsāstrengthening reading comprehension strategies and building fluency in multi-step math problem solving. Having snacks available removes a barrier to learning and allows my students to give their best effort through dismissal. Your kindness has truly helped create a classroom environment where students feel cared for, supported, and ready to succeed. The new materials you provided like laminating pouches, file folders, and posters have helped me create a clean and structured environment where students can easily find what they need and take pride in their learning space. The chair bands and morning meeting cards have been a wonderful addition, helping my students stay focused and calm while building their social-emotional skills each day.\r\n\r\nThe buzzers, handwriting stamps, and scratch paper notebooks have completely transformed our lessons! My students light up when they get to use these tools during games, centers, and small groups.
