Many of them have difficulty reading grade level material. The headphones allow the students to listen to required reading material, and this helps them comprehend what they are reading much better. Taking the focus off of decoding put the focus on understanding!\r\n\r\nThe students in my building are exposed to quite a lot of trauma. I did not expect that the headphones would come in handy for decompressing when time outs are needed. This is definitely an added bonus that I am grateful for.\r\n\r\nAgain, I thank you for your generosity on behalf of my students and myself. This corner of my classroom has become a cherished spot for many.\r\n\r\nThe students in my building use this corner to take a quick time out when they need a break. The rule is 10 minutes, and we use a timer. The students adhere to the time limit willingly and appreciate the the opportunity to do this. \r\n\r\nI have been able to teach my students to be more empathetic to other students in the building. My students have learned to respect the need for some quiet time and leave the people in \"The Safe Spot\" corner alone.\r\n\r\nMy students love to sit in the comfortable furniture and relax when they are finished with their work. They view it as a reward and this area of the room has become a cherished place for many.\r\n\r\nI appreciate the opportunity to be able to provide a time out spot for the students in my building when it is needed. I believe that the mental health breaks \"The Safe Spot\" provides is essential to educating the whole student.
