Back in the fall, when I first walked into my classroom the walls and shelves were bare. I had eager learners entering my room for their daily reading intervention groups, but very little hands-on manipulatives to support and engage them in their learning. With your gracious donation, our daily repetitive routine has become fun and exciting. The students absolutely love using the mini erasers to find letters, words, digraphs, etc. and use them as tokens to practice skills during games. They giggle with excitement when I pull a new set of erasers out. You provided an assortment of different shapes/themes of erasers and with all of the different options I can rotate through them, constantly refreshing the \"fun\" in our activities. Even the older students are always thrilled to see what new erasers they get to use for the week!\r\n\r\nI have been able to improve the way I teach by using the alphabet tubs/toys, the alphabet mystery box, alphabet books, and flashcards to directly teach letters/sounds in an engaging way that students can't wait to participate in! Using several different modes to teach the same letter, provides multiple opportunities for my students to hear and see the letter/sound.\r\n\r\nMy students are always eager to practice their skills independently with the materials your funding provided. They enjoy the alphabet zoo game, fishing for letters, puzzles, Play-Doh mats, and writing boards. In fact, this is their favorite time of the week, and they feel like they are playing, when in fact they are learning too! My once empty walls and shelves are now filled with captivating visuals, games, materials, and activities that stimulate learning and engagement. \r\n\r\nI truly believe your funding for this project has changed the lives of these students. They love coming to intervention group, they are engaged in their learning, and they are excited to be readers. Their motivation has increased tremendously, and I can't wait to see how much they continue to grow using all the wonderful materials you provided. \r\n\r\nNot only do I observe their knowledge and engagement increasing, but the data also shows it! Each and every student working with me has made significant gains in reading. I have had several students go from knowing zero letters/sounds to knowing all of them. I have older students who started the year reading around 60 words per minute and are now reading 120 words per minute. I have even had one student increase her reading skills to the point she no longer receives intervention. The student's test scores are increasing, and the gap is closing! I cannot thank you enough for your donation and all of the support it has provided for us. I sincerely thank you for your time and contribution.","fullyFundedDate":1729708807724,"projectUrl":"project/little-letter-learners/8891935/","projectTitle":"Little Letter Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robbins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8849251"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42907","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":129,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":12,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":87,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":5,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"12.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":100.0,"schoolId":42907,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Gilchrist Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Gilchrist Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/wyoming/laramie-county-school-district-1/gilchrist-elementary-school/42907"}
