The science viewers are a HUGE hit! The children are truly enjoying making discoveries and naming the different animals they see. They are amazed at the shake and reveal and they are devouring our science books. When the eye droppers were added to our water station, our scholars were able to measure and practice suction. Our next steps will be to add live items to our classroom. The children voted and we are looking to add a plant and a guinea pig. This year, my classroom has tables instead of individual desks, so students do not have a built-in space to store their materials. The chair pockets have been a huge help by giving each student their own designated place to keep workbooks, folders, and other classroom materials.\r\n\r\nHaving a specific place for their supplies has helped students keep up with their materials and stay organized throughout the school day. Instead of searching around the classroom or having materials piled on the tables, students know exactly where their belongings should be. This has also made transitions between subjects smoother because students can quickly find what they need and be ready to learn.\r\n\r\nThe mini pencil cases have also been a wonderful addition to our classroom organization. Students use them to keep their everyday supplies, such as pencils, erasers, and other small materials, readily accessible. Having these supplies organized and within reach reduces interruptions and helps students take ownership of their materials. Through our chapter books and Book Club read-alouds, we work on identifying character traits, analyzing how characters respond to challenges, determining the central message or theme, making inferences, summarizing, identifying important details, understanding vocabulary in context, and comparing characters, events, and even book-to-movie adaptations. We also talk about lessons we can take from the stories and how those lessons connect to our own lives. The variety of new series books also allows students to explore different genres, build reading stamina, and develop their own preferences as readers.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom looks like much more than sitting quietly with a book. We read independently, with partners, and together as a class. During our Book Club, we read at least one chapter of our selected chapter book each day and stop to discuss what is happening, make predictions, ask questions, and think deeply about the characters and lessons in the story. When we finish a book, we celebrate it with a culminating activity connected to the story. For example, after reading The Lemonade War, we will create our own lemonade stand at school and sell lemonade to raise money for third grade. Our upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory celebration will include watching the movie, enjoying chocolate treats, and discussing kindness, lessons, themes, and the differences between the book and movie.\r\n\r\nI have already noticed how much the new books are drawing in students who sometimes need extra encouragement to choose a book and get started reading. Students who love series books are especially excited to have multiple books featuring characters they already know and enjoy, which encourages them to keep reading the next book. Other students are discovering new genres and chapter books that they may not have chosen before. Seeing students eagerly search through our new books, recommend books to one another, and ask, \"Can I take this one?\" is exactly what I hoped this project would create. They were immediately excited and wanted to know what each item would be used for. The candy in particular was a huge hit, and hearing them talk about Candy Day made the countdown feel even more special. They were so excited to see that our classroom could be a place for both learning and memorable celebrations.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue our current lessons while preparing for the ABC Countdown activities at the end of the year. We will keep practicing important reading skills, discussing books, and working toward finishing the school year strong. These new resources will help us celebrate our growth, create special classroom memories, and end the year with joyful experiences that encourage students to keep reading and learning all summer long.
