Our brand-new classroom rug has already transformed our kindergarten space in the most wonderful ways. It's quickly become the heart of our room—where we gather for morning meetings, share stories, practice letters and sounds, and learn how to be a community.\r\n\r\nFor many of my students, this rug is the first place each day where they feel grounded, welcomed, and ready to learn. Having a clean, comfortable, colorful space to sit helps them focus, feel safe, and engage fully in our lessons. It might seem like a simple item, but in a kindergarten classroom, it's truly essential.\r\n\r\nBecause of you, my students now have a special spot of their own—a place to giggle through read-alouds, stretch out during centers, and sit shoulder-to-shoulder with new friends. You've helped create an environment that nurtures both learning and belonging.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your support and for believing that even the smallest learners deserve a beautiful place to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1756220054187,"projectUrl":"project/a-special-spot-for-every-kindergartener/9639965/","projectTitle":"A Special Spot for Every Kindergartener","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Serio","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10215307"},{"teacherId":10048426,"projectId":9390931,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to our project. Our new rug was met with great excitement! It has allowed for us to collaborate with each other, have a comfortable place to learn through play, and explore flexible seating options. This rug has now benefited two different groups of learners. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, we have been able to integrate art into learning with the anchor chart paper. This has allowed for students to have an access point to learning no matter what their prior knowledge is. Students have utilized materials in both literacy and math to have a rich learning experience. Retelling stories by creating settings with the anchor chart paper has been a favorite amongst students. Thanks to your support, we were able to create ocean-themed sensory bins that have made a tremendous impact on our PreK students' learning and development.\r\n\r\nThe sensory bins provide an interactive and engaging experience for our little learners, allowing them to explore textures, colors, and objects related to the ocean. These materials not only spark curiosity but also help to develop fine motor skills, promote language growth, and foster creativity through imaginative play.\r\n\r\nIt's incredible to witness the joy and excitement on the children's faces as they dive into their ocean adventures. The moment the students saw the kits for the first time, their excitement was palpable—several exclaimed, \"This is so cool!\" as they eagerly unpacked the components. We started with basic circuit-building lessons, where they learned to connect the pieces to light up LEDs or power a small fan. This hands-on approach immediately captured their attention and helped them understand abstract concepts like current flow and circuit design in a tangible way.\r\n\r\nOne standout project has been our \"Design Your Own Circuit Challenge.\" After mastering the basics, students worked in pairs to create a circuit with at least one functional feature—a working light, sound, or motion. One group engineered a spinning fan with an adjustable speed, while another combined light and sound to create a mini \"alarm system.\" Their reactions when their designs worked were priceless—cheers, high-fives, and even a couple of victory dances filled the classroom. These activities have not only boosted their understanding of STEM principles but also fostered collaboration and problem-solving skills.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll integrate these Snap Circuits into a cross-curricular project. Students will design an energy-efficient \"model home\" that incorporates circuits to power lights and fans. They'll also use math skills to calculate energy usage and brainstorm eco-friendly upgrades. These resources have made science come alive, and the journey has just begun!","fullyFundedDate":1732807169130,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-young-engineers-with-snap-cir/8957989/","projectTitle":"Empowering Young Engineers with Snap Circuits","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Maisel","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9424066_orig.png?crop=1080,1080,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704225557906","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9424066"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_64185","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":467,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":74,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":23,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":55,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":64185,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Germantown Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Germantown Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/maryland/anne-arundel-county-public-schools/germantown-elementary-school/64185"}
