For example, the highlighters have allowed certain students to participate actively during guided notes. Students who receive guided notes can choose the highlighter color they want to help them remember key points from the notes. I have also implemented more whiteboard activities during class since I received the pack of Expo Markers and small erasers. Recently, my students reviewed the Carbon Cycle using their whiteboards and markers. This review helped them connect with the information more, and over 85% of my students correctly answered Carbon Cycle questions on the test. \r\n\r\nMy students have appreciated having the option of alternative lighting during work time. I used the fluorescent light cover to dim the emergency light in my classroom, and the LED lamps add a fun color to the dark corners of the room. When students have work time in class, they have the option to use fidgets, and I allow one student to set the LED timer. These are certain privileges in my classroom that help students learn accountability. When the timer is set, students are expected to have a task completed in a certain amount of time. When a fidget is given to a student, they are expected to use it productively. Both the timer and fidgets serve as good reminders for students to take responsibility for their actions. \r\n\r\nSome future goals I have for my classroom are to include anchor chart projects for certain units and create an additional bulletin board to display student work. I have used some of the black bulletin paper and purple border to make a welcome area that students can see when they first walk in the door. During our chemistry unit, I hope to create anchor charts and molecule drawings that will be displayed in the classroom. Many of my students enjoy adding drawings to their notes, so I am looking forward to creating a space where they can show off their hard work. Each item I received has inspired me to add more opportunities for student engagement to my daily lessons.
