First, I will talk about the advantages of having a book for each student. I can have the students read to each other and assign work that makes them reread the story in order to complete certain tasks, improving their comprehension and fluency. It also teaches them responsibility by having to keep track of and care for a book every day. \r\n Second, it helps to expand their vocabulary. Reading different books exposes them to vocabulary they may not see in their day-to-day work. Expanding their vocabulary has been shown to improve their overall educational outcome. It improves comprehension and confidence. \r\n Lastly, and the major reason for me, was to show them that chapter books are nothing to be scared of and to impart a love of reading. Many of my students, when I handed them the book for the first time, said they could not read a chapter book, and they were sure that they wouldn't it. After a few chapters they students were disappointed that we were only reading one chapter at a time and asked if they could read ahead. It also got some students to find book that are in a series and start reading them on their own time. So these books have made a major impact in my class and I wanted to thank you again for your donation.","fullyFundedDate":1773845136981,"projectUrl":"project/turning-the-page-to-bigger-stories/10121643/","projectTitle":"Turning the Page to Bigger Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Alexander","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp3513439_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1468881456621","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3513439"},{"teacherId":8383784,"projectId":10247493,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation of books to my classroom!
