Thanks to the stories we have had really strong discussion about topics around personal finance. I am so excited to see students so engaged in a topic that can be scary for adults. The materials also made scientific vocabulary more meaningful. Engagement and persistence rose during lessons as learners designed mini‑experiments and explored outcomes, and the manipulatives supported different learning needs by giving concrete experiences to students who struggle with abstract concepts. I was able to observe students applying ideas in real time and provide targeted feedback, which led to improved results on quick concept checks and richer student writing about experiments. And the girls have all cut out cardboard hearts. The saw is so user friendly and safe that I only had to provide a little instructions before they took it over and were cutting and building during each class period. Even students who aren't usually interested in any type of STEM were drawn to the saw and wanted to try it out. Today we were able to pull out our science tools and use them to do some exploration of plants and animals. Students were split into three groups and given time to explore plants and animals with the naked eye, magnifying glass, and finally the pocket microscopes. It was a huge hit! \r\n\r\nWe used academic language to describe the surface of each specimen and then discuss similarities and differences when using the various methods to explore. It led to a really great discussion and students were so engaged and excited. I can't wait to use these tools in the future for even more explorations and learning.
