The new books you helped provide have made a remarkable difference in our classroom, especially for our multilingual learners who are just beginning to read in English and/or read stories where they see themselves culturally represented. These books introduce important foundational skills like recognizing sight words, blending letter sounds, and understanding sentence structure. We focus on high-frequency pre-primer words and phonics patterns and these books have made it much easier for students to apply what they've learned in a meaningful, joyful way.\r\n\r\nReading time in our classroom is now one of the most exciting parts of the day. Students sit in pairs or small groups, sounding out words, pointing to pictures, and proudly sharing what they read. One of my second graders, who was very quiet and hesitant to speak in English earlier this year, now eagerly chooses a book and reads aloud with confidence and a big smile. They are especially drawn to the fun, colorful texts that help them feel successful.
