Many wanted to hold the books right away and started asking when we could begin reading them together. It was wonderful to see their joy and anticipation for stories that reflect both their own experiences and new worlds of imagination.\r\n\r\nWe are beginning The House on Mango Street as a whole-class novel study. Students are making personal connections to the text and sharing insights in both English and Spanish, which has led to powerful, bilingual discussions about identity, belonging, and personal growth. Meanwhile, the Harry Potter books are available in our classroom library for independent reading, and I have already seen students eagerly swap them during free reading time.\r\n\r\nThe next step is to build on this excitement by having students create response projects such as journals, character sketches, and group presentations, where they analyze themes and share their perspectives with classmates. These resources are not only strengthening their language skills, but also inspiring a genuine love for reading that I know will stay with them long after this school year.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting young minds and helping my students discover the joy of reading. Your generosity is creating meaningful experiences that will stay with them for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1746786440881,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-bilingual-haven-first-year-c/9257054/","projectTitle":"Building a Bilingual Haven: First-Year Classroom Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Montini","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9910072"},{"teacherId":9910072,"projectId":9203243,"letterContent":"With The House on Mango Street, my students are learning to analyze themes, explore figurative language, and make personal connections to literature. The Harry Potter books have added excitement to independent reading, helping students practice comprehension skills while also building the confidence to tackle longer texts.\r\n\r\nReading now feels joyful and engaging in our classroom. One student who was once hesitant to read has proudly taken on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, while others have been eager to lead discussions on The House on Mango Street.
