We are currently reading the novel together, and it has quickly become a favorite. The story has helped us practice important reading skills such as identifying character traits, making predictions, and discussing themes like empathy, responsibility, and doing what is right even when it is difficult. The shared text has allowed us to stop and talk through big moments, explore vocabulary, and make strong connections to our own experiences.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is very interactive. Students read aloud, annotate, and participate in partner and whole-group discussions. With each student having their own copy, they are able to follow along more confidently and engage more deeply with the story. One of the most meaningful parts has been hearing students talk about how the main character cares for Shiloh. Many of them relate to that protective, loving feeling and have shared stories about their own pets and family responsibilities.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has created a shared reading experience that feels joyful, meaningful, and full of connection. We're using the incubator to observe the development of chicks from egg to hatchling, and the brooding box provides a safe, warm space for our new chicks once they hatch. Every day, the students eagerly take turns checking the temperature, turning the eggs, and recording observations in their science journals.\r\n\r\nThe moment the incubator arrived, the room was filled with excitement and curiosity! Students immediately started asking thoughtful questions about how eggs develop and what happens inside the shell. They can hardly wait for hatch day!\r\n\r\nThis project has sparked a deeper love for science and discovery in my classroom. One for the Murphys is helping us dive into themes of family, belonging, and empathy, which has led to meaningful discussions about kindness and resilience. Fourth Grade Rats is a fun and relatable story that allows us to talk about peer pressure, making choices, and staying true to yourself.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is lively and interactive.
