The new texts are being used to build essential skills such as making inferences, identifying theme, comparing characters, and using evidence from the text to support answers. Students are also practicing reading stamina and discussing texts thoughtfully with peers. These materials allow me to differentiate instruction and meet students where they are, whether they are building confidence as emerging readers or being challenged with more complex texts.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is active, engaging, and student-centered. Students choose books that interest them, read independently and with partners, and participate in meaningful discussions during small groups and whole-class lessons. Because the books were selected with student input, there is a strong sense of ownership and excitement around reading time. Students are eager to talk about what they're reading, recommend books to classmates, and spend more time reading without being prompted.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to find books they connected with are especially enjoying the new texts. I've seen reluctant readers become more engaged, motivated readers who are excited to pick up a book each day. By contributing to this project, you helped create a classroom environment where students feel prepared, confident, and enthusiastic about learning. Your support has made a lasting impact on our reading community, and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1764172988641,"projectUrl":"project/tools-students-need-to-succeed/9872207/","projectTitle":"Tools Students Need to Succeed!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Coughlin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8572524_orig.png?crop=256,256,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1747950284274","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8572524"},{"teacherId":8572524,"projectId":9873362,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generous donation, my students are already benefiting from the new standing desk and flexible seating options in our classroom. These resources are being used daily during reading and writing time, especially by students who need movement to stay focused. The standing desk has quickly become a favorite spot for students who think best when they can stand, stretch, and move while working. I've noticed improved focus, longer stamina, and more productive work time—especially during independent reading and written responses.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were incredibly excited. Several students immediately asked when they could try the standing desk, and others commented on how \"cool\" it was to have choices for where and how they learn. For many of my wiggly learners, this was the first time they felt their learning needs were truly understood. Instead of asking for breaks just to move, students are now able to regulate themselves and stay engaged in meaningful learning.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using the standing desk and flexible seating as we move deeper into reading comprehension and writing lessons. In our all-boys learning environment, these tools are helping close the gap by supporting focus, engagement, and confidence—especially during challenging reading and writing tasks. We are a title one school and our funding was cut this year. The flexible seating has already made a noticeable difference in focus and engagement.\r\n\r\nStudents used the new seating during circle, center and library times. Small groups rotated between the rug for whole-class discussion, donut seats for partner work, and stadium chairs for independent time. One memorable moment: a group that usually struggles to stay on task stayed focused for the entire center rotation while using the donut seats to take turns sharing ideas.\r\n\r\nNext steps: students will continue being offered seating choices to support differentiation — students who need quiet work time can use the stadium chairs, while those who thrive on collaboration can work from the rug or donut seats. With the items from the tubs dumped onto the sun in the middle of the carpet the children took turns choosing an object and named the item. My 2nd graders wanted to challenge my 4th graders in a math contest and seeing the pizza fraction game got them so excited to win the trophy cups which were also included in the project. They wanted to win a trophy for math and one for reading.\r\n\r\nAll of my students have goals for the year.
