The first tools we used were the cordless glue guns and the zip cutter for cardboard. The students were so excited about the cordless glue guns. They heat up quickly and there is no more mess from leaking tips. Our old corded glue guns were always covered in glue that leaked out. It would get all over our work space and cause issues on our projects. It is also much safer with out cords and extension cords laying across the floor. We don't have to worry about tripping.\r\n The zip cutter to cut cardboard is so much faster and safer than using razor knives. In the past, I always worried about students cutting themselves with the knives. Even though we only have 1 zip cutter, it is still faster to take turns with it than making multiple passes through cardboard with the razor knife to cut all the way through.\r\n The button maker is a fun addition to our classroom. We are having fun as we learn about graphic design and create our buttons.\r\n Thanks for your support of our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1726553364066,"projectUrl":"project/engineering-the-future/8788693/","projectTitle":"Engineering the Future","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Normand","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/250956"},{"teacherId":6851336,"projectId":8706828,"letterContent":"Thank you very much for funding my project, \"Using Mathematics to Maximize Success in Board Games\". I teach eighth grade math and my students really enjoy playing board games which we do every Friday during advisory.\r\n\r\nThere is so much strategy involved in each game I purchased. I created a unit where students explored different strategies for each game and tested them. This type of project really engaged different parts of their brain and utilized some of the math concepts we have learned both last year and this year. Students also explained and communicated their strategies with other groups which was challenging.\r\n\r\nI greatly appreciate the opportunity to create a fun unit like this. These are things that are used nearly every day. We utilize collaborative learning regularly and having students create posters than serve as one pagers and then utilizing a gallery walk to share learning is a strategy that students appreciate. The photos included show an example of this.\r\n\r\nThe calculators are used often to calculate different aspects of data collected during inquiry labs and greatly help students analyze and interpret was they are observing. Having a calculator for each student helps them all be invested in the data and practice their math skills.\r\n\r\nFinally, the colored pencils are used daily as we utilize color coding strategies for notes, text, and modeling. All of these practices help students learn challenging content in new, different ways. They tend to go through a lot of colored pencils throughout the year and having extras is greatly appreciated.
