These titles provide meaningful learning opportunities for our students and support the development of important academic and personal skills.\r\n\r\nThrough \"Alone\", students are introduced to themes of survival, perseverance, and self-reliance. This book helps students build skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and making inferences as they analyze how the main character adapts to challenging circumstances. It also encourages reflection on resilience and emotional growth.\r\n\r\n\"Holes\" offers rich opportunities to develop comprehension and analytical skills. Students practice identifying multiple plot lines, understanding cause-and-effect relationships, and analyzing character development. The novel also introduces themes of justice, friendship, and personal responsibility, helping students strengthen their ability to recognize themes and make connections across events in a story.\r\n\r\n\"The War That Saved My Life\" supports students in developing empathy and historical understanding. Through this novel, students build skills in character analysis, understanding point of view, and making text-to-world connections. The story encourages thoughtful discussions about courage, change, and the impact of historical events on individuals, while also strengthening vocabulary and comprehension skills.\r\n\r\nMy students are participating in book clubs and are loving the discussion and projects. \r\n\r\nYour thoughtful donation helps foster a love of reading while supporting essential literacy and life skills. They're diving into richer themes, and analyzing character motivations with a maturity that surprises even them. These texts have helped them learn how to question, how to dig deeper, and how to let a book change them.\r\n\r\nBecause of the new titles, our book clubs have grown into spaces where students challenge each other, respectfully debate, and truly listen. They practice leadership, collaboration, and evidence-based discussion—all through stories they are excited to read.\r\n\r\nOur room feels different. During reading time, the room is silent. Teachers could walk out and students wouldn't even know. Then during discussion time, every student is active and engaged. They sit forward, eager to share the line that made them stop or the moment that changed how they saw a character. Even outside of book club meetings, they huddle together, discuss the book and some finished early and are jumping to the sequels. \r\n\r\nThere's a sense of community and intellectual curiosity that simply wasn't possible before these books arrived.\r\n\r\nThe pride they feel when they lead conversations, push their groups' thinking, or make connections no one else noticed is incredible. They hold each other accountable. Students do not want to let each other down, so they make sure to manage their time to get their work done. Your donation gave them books that finally match their curiosity, their abilities, and their hunger to grow.","fullyFundedDate":1760817931311,"projectUrl":"project/the-narratives-nest/9836738/","projectTitle":"The Narratives Nest","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Purple","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10315431"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_133687","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":560,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":19,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":8,"percentWhite":65,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":18,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Weighted Average","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":133687,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Frederick D.
