After 25 years of teaching, I never want to seem complacent and I always strive to be better. Your generous donation helped me to create a classroom of warmth and an aura of welcoming. My students' first reaction to the changes in the room was of awe and excitement. The girls loved the new decor and they said how it really enhanced the classroom. Other students remarked that they already loved coming to my class but that these new touches really made it better.","fullyFundedDate":1769177340565,"projectUrl":"project/creating-an-aura-of-style-and-warmth/9862515/","projectTitle":"Creating an Aura of Style and Warmth!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Strelzin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6576556_orig.jpg?crop=3235,3235,x268,y434&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673303130268","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6576556"},{"teacherId":9472965,"projectId":9513558,"letterContent":"The class set of Patriots from the Barrio has transformed how my students connect with history by placing Mexican American voices at the center of our learning. These texts introduce critical skills such as historical analysis, empathy, and perspective-taking. My students learn to evaluate primary narratives, understand the contributions of Latino soldiers in World War II, and recognize how representation shapes our understanding of the past. The book also encourages rich discussions about identity, citizenship, and belonging — themes that deeply resonate with my students and help them see history as something personal and relevant to their lives.\r\n\r\nReading in my classroom is highly interactive. Students annotate passages, participate in small-group discussions, and reflect through writing on how the stories relate to their own families and communities. The shared class set allows us to read together, pause to unpack complex ideas, and build vocabulary and comprehension skills collaboratively. Many students who previously felt disconnected from traditional textbooks are now eager to participate because they see themselves reflected in the stories. Several students have shared that reading about Mexican American heroes has sparked conversations at home with their families, strengthening both their academic engagement and cultural pride.","fullyFundedDate":1763530550014,"projectUrl":"project/history-hidden-in-our-backyard/9513558/","projectTitle":"History Hidden in Our Backyard","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Echavarri","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9472965_orig.jpg?crop=362,362,x0,y26&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1708366694936","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9472965"},{"teacherId":6576556,"projectId":9862521,"letterContent":"It was so exciting to find out that this project was funded. Teaching high schoolers and finding ways to motivate and reward them can be tough. Believe it or not, they still like stickers and they still like to be praised. Part of this project was to ensure they were rewarded and to feel proud of the work they accomplished. They loved the scratch and sniff stickers and it was cute to see these 16 and 17 year olds scratching them and sharing scents. They also liked that they were fruit and not gross \"food\" scents.\r\n\r\nThe other part of this project was testing shields and light covers. As soon as my students walked into my classroom with the light covers on, they said, \"love the aesthetic!\" They remarked how the vibe was better and soothing. One student who suffers from migraines said, \"oh gosh this is amazing! I won't have migraines in this class anymore!\" They weren't too fond of the testing shields but understood why I got them.\r\n\r\nThank you so much for helping me to fund this project and for my ability to continue to make my classroom as pleasing and welcoming as possible.","fullyFundedDate":1768490080492,"projectUrl":"project/motivate-and-reward-to-learn/9862521/","projectTitle":"Motivate and Reward to Learn!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Strelzin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6576556_orig.jpg?crop=3235,3235,x268,y434&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1673303130268","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6576556"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_107755","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":800,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":78,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":1,"gradesServed":"9 - 9","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":62.3,"schoolId":107755,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Franklin High School Magnet Center on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Franklin High School Magnet Center","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/el-paso-independent-school-district/franklin-high-school-9th-grade-center/107755"}
