We first used them the day after a concert so it was a great way to make music in a stress free way and just vibe with each other after the previous night's performance. They were commenting how relaxing everything sounded and how easy each instrument was to play. They really enjoyed not being able to make a mistake and still keep the flow of the music going. We will be doing more with these instruments in the future, but they do love them for the stress relieving aspect of them. \r\n After our holiday performances, we will take the month of January to do some thoughtful writing and reflecting, and then start to put those creations to music from these peaceful instruments. It was a great sharing moment, but also very sad because many of them are missing so many basic things. They are also going through A LOT at home so they were very happy with the idea of having these basic necessities right in our classroom. \r\nThank you again for being able to share such seemingly \"no big deal\" things to our students.. to them it was a HUGE deal and we are forever grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1762121316001,"projectUrl":"project/nourish-flourish/9673515/","projectTitle":"Nourish & Flourish","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Iding","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1052249_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689028673566","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-iding"},{"teacherId":1052249,"projectId":9405726,"letterContent":"My students have been having a great time so far with everything we received from this project! Many of them are passionate about their music streaming and truly enjoyed being able to share their interests with their classmates. Usually we just play instruments in band class, but this was a good music related activity that also included technology - laptops, music streaming sites, and the actual physical setting up and hooking the computers to the transmitters for the Silent Disco. It allowed students who work well with their hands to do the physical stuff, others who were more comfortable to work with the actual laptops, and then everyone was able to enjoy one activity together. \r\n The students who were the actual DJs felt so empowered to be able to share their musical likes with their peers. The students who volunteered for this position really put themselves out there and made themselves vulnerable to teenage musical style criticism, but they did such a good job and were very proud of themselves in the end. The feedback from the class was great, and many students were asking questions about the setup, imagining how they could incorporate something similar to outside parties or possibly something with a future career. \r\n\r\n Thank you for giving my students something new to try and some great ideas for their futures!","fullyFundedDate":1752586586443,"projectUrl":"project/move-to-the-silent-disco/9391426/","projectTitle":"Move to the Silent Disco!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Iding","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1052249_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689028673566","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-iding"},{"teacherId":2756903,"projectId":7923749,"letterContent":"This project helped our students develop our small business. I created a bunch of games we were playing about student likes and dislikes, and similarities and differences, and we got to learn a lot about each other and our families. I can't even begin to tell you how much we were laughing and how big everyone's eyes were when I pulled out the parachute for the first time! They were so excited and so many said it brought back fun memories of when they were little kids, and had so much fun in gym class or outside. \r\n We were also able to use the parachute for music-related activities, which was a great visual for learning about how to work together, move at the same time, and keep the beat. This group of kids is also the marching band, so it was a great visual for them to see how important it is, that we all work together to achieve the same goal.\r\n The band is dying to play with the parachute again and we already have our plan set up for after our first parade. They loved the feeling of being so carefree and happy, and I never laughed so much with them before - it was truly a very heartwarming experience that WE ALL appreciated. They were helping each other and really working as a team to create their own little songs and parts they wanted to loop. We are still getting used to how to control everything, but the mini-songs they did sounded very nice. The students were feeling super creative and would come to class excited with new ideas to try on guitar and with drumset. The band students were also interested in creating their own songs and are currently in partners with another instrument from their section to create their little duets. \r\n\r\nThank you for allowing a new kind of creativity in our classroom and for fostering a good work ethic in my students. My students are enjoying exploring sound with the different mallets while learning how to make harmonious sounds with the meditation singing bowls. The ocean drum was also a big hit, because most students had never heard of such a thing and they loved how the sound mimicked waves crashing on the beach. A few students asked if they could make recordings and show them to their parents and family. One student had a great idea of using the instruments to make a track to fall asleep to since she has trouble feeling calm at night.\r\n\r\n All of this has helped our music club grow so much! They are becoming more comfortable with performing in front of people and learning to be more musical in general. They can hear what sounds compliment each other and which are not so nice together. We will be working with the yoga class in our school to do pop in meditation sessions for the students around big test times and also offer it in our music club once a week after school. \r\n\r\nThank you again for giving my students a glimpse into the world of sound therapy and how they can use their musical skills to help and serve others.","fullyFundedDate":1732291019854,"projectUrl":"project/music-for-meditation/8869403/","projectTitle":"Music for Meditation","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Iding","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1052249_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689028673566","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-iding"},{"teacherId":1052249,"projectId":8795380,"letterContent":"At first, my students were EXTREMELY surprised/confused at the instruments we received. They had never heard of these things before, and we're very interested in what they looked like. Once we started playing with them, the students were super enthusiastic about using them and we were able to start a little club of sound therapy students that meets once a week within our already established music club. \r\n My students really love the sounds that the bowls make, and they love how relaxing it is to hear them. Another great point is how easy it is to produce such beautiful tones. They like playing the bowls for each other to take turns relaxing. The rain stick has added another great effect they can use. A project we will work on in the future is making a recording that they can loop for sounds they can fall asleep to. One of our students came up with that idea and she is very enthusiastic about it. We also have a future collaboration with the yoga class in the works, once we master how to play the bowls a little bit more. \r\n I have to say there was an added bonus to this - In the time we created project and the materials actually came, I had two blind students come to my class. They took to these instruments IMMEDIATELY and it has given them such a great sense of making music and exploring with sound. These things are perfect for allowing the girls to feel included and to make music like everyone else. They eagerly unpacked the supplies, already brainstorming all the delicious dishes they could create. Some students who had never held professional kitchen tools before were amazed, and others, who dream of culinary careers, saw this as a step closer to their goals.\r\n\r\nWith these new resources, we will be able to expand our hands-on learning experiences. Students will practice essential cooking techniques, experiment with new recipes, and even explore cultural cuisines that they may not have had the opportunity to try before. Beyond cooking, my students are learning teamwork, problem-solving, and confidence skills that will serve them well in life.\r\n\r\nAt FDR High School, our culinary program is more than just a cooking class; it's a space where students can bond, share stories, and develop life skills in a supportive environment.
