Many of them had not ever spent time in a garden before, so the excitement was immediate—hands shot into the air, and several students asked if we could start \"right now, today!\"\r\n\r\nWe began by launching with an herb picking experience. Each student picked some herbs to taste and explore in the classroom. By using the mortar & pestle the students released the amazing aromas and made many fun combinations of smells. Within minutes, the students were buzzing with excitement. Some recognized the familiar smell of a food item and others were amazed that each plant was so unique. One student announced, \"I'm going to give this basil to my dad so he can use it to make dinner!\"\r\n\r\nThese resources have transformed our science lessons into something living and interactive. We're no longer just talking about plant growth and ecosystems; we're observing them unfold right in our classroom. The Garden Box Lending Library has also become a shared community space—teachers take turns borrowing them for building knowledge, responsibility and pride for all students in what we are growing in our school garden.\r\n\r\nAs the Spring approaches we will have many other opportunities to head out to the garden with a ready made lesson in hand! Kids can interact with the garden through, poetry, art, science, social justice, math, reading and more!\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your support didn't just give us materials—it gave my students ownership, curiosity, and a reason to come to school excited for what they will discover next.","fullyFundedDate":1755167512731,"projectUrl":"project/growing-with-the-school-garden-an-exper/9453807/","projectTitle":"Growing with the School Garden: An Experiential Garden Box Library","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Galicia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1047957_orig.jpg?crop=1991,1991,x324,y447&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752237915386","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1047957"},{"teacherId":8564145,"projectId":9308824,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting Playful Practice for Growing ELL Minds! They laughed, negotiated, and helped each other, all while practicing important language skills. These playful interactions are exactly what they need to build both confidence and fluency.\r\n\r\nI amusing these resources to launch small-group learning stations where students rotate through reading, writing, speaking, and listening practice. When I opened the boxes, my students were immediately drawn to the colorful games and picture cards, eager to explore. Their excitement turned into engagement as they used the ABC matching puzzles, storytelling cards, and vocabulary games to build their English skills in a fun and meaningful way.\r\n\r\nThese resources have already made a difference! My younger students love using the prepositions game to practice spatial words, laughing as they placed objects \"on,\" \"under,\" and \"beside\" different pieces. My older students have been using the real-life vocabulary cards to group and classify objects, sparking discussions that strengthen their speaking and comprehension skills. One of my second graders, who was hesitant to participate, confidently sequenced a story using the picture cards, showing how these tools build both language and confidence.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, my students now have hands-on materials that bring language learning to life. Moving forward, we will continue using these resources to expand vocabulary, improve sentence structure, and encourage oral language development.
