The new books introduce important social-emotional skills such as identifying feelings, practicing mindfulness, developing empathy, and learning healthy coping strategies. Through these texts, students learn that emotions are normal and that there are positive ways to manage stress, frustration, and big feelings.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is both calming and purposeful. Students visit the calming corner during independent reading time or when they need a moment to reset. They choose books that reflect their emotions, quietly read, and then return to learning feeling more focused and grounded. This routine has helped normalize emotional regulation as part of the school day.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who struggle with emotional regulation have especially connected with the new books. They often return to the calming corner independently, using the stories as tools to name their feelings and calm themselves. These moments show how powerful it is when students see themselves reflected in books and feel supported in their learning and emotional growth.","fullyFundedDate":1758202896354,"projectUrl":"project/the-calming-corner-initiative/9620193/","projectTitle":"The Calming Corner Initiative","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9696754_orig.jpg?crop=1600,1600,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753808857360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9696754"},{"teacherId":9696754,"projectId":9490860,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, Math Minds in Motion has transformed the way my students experience math every day. We are using the new resources during hands-on, movement-based math stations where students solve problems by rotating through activities that involve building models, using manipulatives, and physically demonstrating their thinking. One standout moment was during a fractions lesson: students used the materials to create and compare fraction models, then moved around the room to justify their reasoning to classmates. Math became active, visual, and collaborative no longer confined to worksheets.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their excitement was immediate. They were eager to explore, asking questions and diving right in without hesitation. Several students who are usually quiet during math lessons volunteered to participate, and others shared how the activities helped math \"finally make sense.\" The resources created a sense of ownership and confidence, especially for students who struggle with traditional instruction.","fullyFundedDate":1758202760497,"projectUrl":"project/math-minds-in-motion/9490860/","projectTitle":"Math Minds in Motion","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9696754_orig.jpg?crop=1600,1600,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753808857360","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9696754"},{"teacherId":1458330,"projectId":8472204,"letterContent":"Thank you for ensuring I was able to start the year with essential items. One special project involved using these materials to explore measurement and geometry. Students worked together to design obstacle courses and then measured distances, angles, and times, integrating math with movement and teamwork. It turned into a perfect blend of physical activity and applied learning. One of the most rewarding moments was seeing how the indoor playground became a tool for bonding and collaboration. Many of our students formed new friendships while building and using the equipment together. Their teamwork blossomed, and we saw quieter students come out of their shells. The kitchen supplies you helped fund have transformed our afterschool space into a hands-on learning hub where students explore healthy ingredients, practice teamwork, and build confidence through cooking.\r\n\r\nWhen the new materials arrived, the students were ecstatic! Their eyes lit up as they unboxed cutting boards, kid-safe knives, mixing bowls, and measuring tools — real equipment that made them feel like true chefs. One unforgettable moment was when a group of students used the new blenders to make their first-ever fruit smoothies — they were beaming with pride as they served samples to each other and gave peer feedback.\r\n\r\nWe're currently working through a unit on balanced snacks using seasonal produce, and students are learning not just recipes, but important life skills — reading instructions, measuring accurately, and working safely in the kitchen.
