When I first found out about Donors Choose I wanted to choose items for my classroom that would have a great impact on the experience my students have while reading. As I'm sure you can understand, it can be hard for children to settle down and truly enjoy reading--whether it be class novels or their personal library books. I try to set aside enough class time each week for the magic of reading to take shape. \r\nThese pillows are a great asset to that goal. They allow students to sit around the classroom in various nooks and crannies (as middle school students enjoy doing) and dig deep into their literature. The pillows and cushions are so loved that the students implemented a plan for how to disperse them in a systematic way each week. \r\nThank you again for supporting this project!","fullyFundedDate":1726255228763,"projectUrl":"project/read-learn-while-relaxing/8706365/","projectTitle":"Read & Learn While Relaxing!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Derricks","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9708403"},{"teacherId":9712357,"projectId":8712464,"letterContent":"The impact of our Casserole Company was fabulous! Students learned about time management and organization. Considering details and learning how to work together was the most impactful portion of this project. They learned that personal workstyles and work ethic differ and there were days of frustration, but as they worked through this they gained powerful leadership skills and produced some outstanding products for community members. Students prepared 18 casseroles. This required testing recipes, ordering supplies, and preparing a schedule. We only had 50 minutes daily to focus on this project, which required teamwork and time management. Using the microwave we were able to move more quickly and achieve our results promptly. The pans cut down on our costs, which we passed on to our customers. The label maker and laminator allowed them to utilize their design and computer skills to develop a logo, quality advertising, and organized distribution. \r\n\r\nThank-you for supporting this hands on learning opportunity. The students are so fortunate to have had this chance to develop and grow and we appreciate you helping us do this.","fullyFundedDate":1726582112006,"projectUrl":"project/food-prep-express-math-in-life-a-recipe/8712464/","projectTitle":"Food Prep Express Math in Life-a Recipe for Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Knoche","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9712357_orig.jpg?crop=2100,2100,x0,y98&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1724799683678","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9712357"},{"teacherId":9738650,"projectId":8752948,"letterContent":"Thank you for the classroom set of TI-30 calculators. We would often \"borrow\" from the math department. These calculators will allow our students to do their work without the stress of having to buy their own expensive calculators. Students are not allowed to have their phones in the classroom so when they are finished with work, they are left to stare at each other. We are learning to engage in conversation again, and both of these games allow students of all ability levels to work together. Many students look forward to short activities they have in class to complete so they can enjoy those resources.\r\n\r\nWe are learning to use our Vernier Go-Direct Motion Sensor.
