When students, and teachers, saw the big box with the colorful pictures, they were very intrigued by it! Even more so when I opened the box and they saw the big blue (still coated in its protective wrapping) orb.\r\n\r\nThis is my very first year teaching and I am coming into the the field as a career switcher. This year has been pretty overwhelming trying to keep up with lesson planning, grading, meetings, evaluations, and all the other responsibilities we have on top of actual teaching. I was hoping to get the Biorb set up earlier on, but there just wasn't time to fit it in as we were cramming to fit in all the material before State testing, then we moved right into AP testing, senior exams, and then underclassmen exams. Then on top of that, we had an amazing nursery nearby but it closed over the winter (sold to data centers!!! :( ) and I didn't know where else to go for help with setting up a terrarium as I have never done it before, and to source plants suitable for the Biorb.\r\n\r\nI FINALLY found a garden center that sells plants for terrariums and was able to get it set up. I will see how it goes over the summer, learning maintenance, etc. about it and then I plan on involving the students with it more next year as I will know a little bit more about it by then! It needs a few more plants so I am going to have them help me pick some out and maybe have them add a few \"fun\" elements (lego mini figure?).\r\n\r\nThe Biorb is a great asset to my classroom as I don't have any windows. It is a great way to bring in a bit of nature - light, greenery, LIFE - to my otherwise pretty stale room. Again, I am so grateful someone saw my request and made this donation!","fullyFundedDate":1771025063860,"projectUrl":"project/biorb-terrarium/10062782/","projectTitle":"Biorb Terrarium","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Craft","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10419582"},{"teacherId":10159402,"projectId":9548056,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for investing in my project \"Developing Life-Long Readers.\" I was able to work with one of our wonderful English 9 teachers to create a student choice book club unit, and it has been amazing! This particular teacher has all of the academically at-risk students who are often below grade level in their reading and are identified as reluctant learners.\r\n\r\nWe started by doing a Book Cafe sampling of the titles for each book. The students were able to rank their choices from the book they'd most like to read to the book they'd least like to read. From there, they were put in small book club groups and given control of their calendar and schedule for reading and discussing their picks. The result has been nothing short of awesome. \r\n\r\nI've received numerous emails and texts from the teacher updating me on the progress of the book clubs, but I think this quote is among my favorite because it shows the genuine success of the book club groups, while still acknowledging that teenagers will be teenagers. \"I had 3 groups of boys today debate whose book was better! It was amazing! I mean, it devolved into nonsense and arguments like \"my book has cursing\" but at the beginning it was so great!\" This type of enthusiasm is possible because you chose to believe in these kids through your investment in my project.","fullyFundedDate":1762192794511,"projectUrl":"project/just-read-it-student-choice-library-for/9548056/","projectTitle":"Just Read It!
