Our district goal is to get all students (52,000 of them) reading on grade level by 2030. We are all working hard to make this a reality. The dictionaries and thesauruses you helped purchase have been a great addition to our classroom. To promote reading, we are also writing every day about our reading. Students were revising and editing their writing and using dictionaries to find the correct spelling of words and using the thesaurus to find interesting words for their stories. \r\n\r\nReading in our classroom consists of reading a story, learning strategies to help with comprehension, and then writing a response to show that understanding. Our math block is filled with all the activities necessary to be successful in 5th grade. Multiplication facts are something we struggle with every year and have no real time to practice. With the class set of multiplication flash cards, students can take home 10-12 facts to work on at a time. When they are ready to \"test\" on those facts, they will take home 10 new facts. All students can be working on different facts at once.\r\n\r\nWe also love to play \"games.\" By using the multiplication dice, practing math facts suddenly becomes a game.
