Your contribution has helped us create a small garden that is already making a big impact on our students. Through gardening, our children are learning responsibility, patience, and the importance of caring for the environment. They are also researching how plants grow and how healthy foods are produced. The garden has become a place of hands-on learning, teamwork, and joy. As a result, I was able to assist a 5th grade teacher in my school in creating a \"zen den\" in her classroom to help students who need time to chill out or time just for themselves. Although I am no longer a classroom teacher, as an MTSS Specialist, I have the means to reach a broader audience in my K-5 environment. \r\n\r\nBecause Social Emotional Learning has become a large focus in elementary education, especially as we are still recovering from our year in isolation, we try to be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to handling student's emotions. The creation of a \"zen den\" allows us the opportunity to teach students skills that enable them to regulate their own emotions and a space for them to learn to communicate those emotions. \r\n\r\nAgain, I can't say thank you enough to the donors who made the funding of this project possible. Students come to school and need a multitude of support from us, and I feel like we need a multitude of resources to facilitate this process. While we often have access to additional monies as a Title I school, there are often limitations on what we can spend the money on, so your generous support is invaluable.
