These books are perfect for our students with severe and profound disabilities, and they have brought so much joy and excitement into our classroom.\r\n\r\nWhen the books first arrived, our students were so curious. They reached out to touch the bumpy pages, smiled at the shiny pictures, and laughed when they heard the sounds. One memorable moment was during our \"Story Exploration\" time, when a student who rarely joined in sat with us and turned the pages of a textured book all by himself. It was a beautiful moment of connection and learning.\r\n\r\nWe use the books every day in small groups and one-on-one reading time. The clear, repetitive language helps our students follow along and anticipate what comes next. The textures and sounds provide a hands-on way for them to explore the story, keeping them engaged and excited.\r\n\r\nNext, we are working on a class project where students help choose textures and sounds to create their own sensory storybook. This project will let them be storytellers and share their own experiences in a way that feels meaningful to them.\r\n\r\nYour donation has made all of this possible. You've helped us bring stories to life in a way that meets our students' unique needs—and we are so grateful. Thank you for believing in our classroom and for making such a big difference.","fullyFundedDate":1733870990966,"projectUrl":"project/books-creating-magical-reading-experien/8843419/","projectTitle":"Books: Creating Magical Reading Experiences for Young Minds!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Childs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9467852"},{"teacherId":9467852,"projectId":8579677,"letterContent":"When the new sensory materials arrived, our students were instantly drawn to the vibrant textures and colors, especially the felt pieces. One unforgettable moment was when a student who usually has difficulty focusing became fully engaged during our first felt board story. As we placed soft, textured characters on the board, he reached out to interact with them, clearly connecting with the story in a way we hadn't seen before.\r\n\r\nWe've since begun using the felt board daily to bring stories to life. Each session allows students to participate by placing pieces on the board, helping them develop fine motor skills, follow simple sequences, and connect with language tangibly and engagingly. It's especially powerful for nonverbal students, who now have a new way to express understanding and excitement.\r\n\r\nOur next step is creating personalized felt stories, incorporating familiar people, routines, and interests from each student's life. With your support, these resources are transforming story time into a meaningful, hands-on learning experience—thank you for making that possible!","fullyFundedDate":1724875924188,"projectUrl":"project/enhance-sensory-learning-support-our-cl/8579677/","projectTitle":"Enhance Sensory Learning: Support Our Classroom for Students with Disabilities","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Childs","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9467852"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_99598","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":856,"numTeachers":71,"percentFrplEligible":85,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":29,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":59,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"12.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":61.4,"schoolId":99598,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Ferguson Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Ferguson Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/georgia/gwinnett-county-public-schools/ferguson-elementary-school/99598"}
