We've integrated them into daily routines to help students with self-regulation, focus, and engagement. The noise-canceling headphones have been especially helpful in reducing sensory overload during loud transitions, allowing students to feel more comfortable in the classroom environment. The sensory boat has become a favorite calming space, where students can take breaks when feeling overstimulated. Our sensory lights create a soothing atmosphere during quiet time, and fidgets help with focus during lessons.\r\n \r\nOne of the most rewarding moments was seeing a student who used to struggle with group activities now sitting on our new classroom rug, engaging comfortably with peers. Their excitement and curiosity were incredible! Some students immediately put on the noise-canceling headphones and smiled as they realized how much more comfortable they felt in the classroom. Others eagerly climbed into the sensory boat, rocking gently and enjoying the calming effect. The fidgets became instant favorites, helping students stay engaged during seated activities. The sensory lights captivated their attention, creating a peaceful and inviting atmosphere. Seeing their faces light up with joy and relief was a truly special moment and shared learning experience.\r\n\r\nWith these resources now part of our classroom, we are focusing on structured sensory regulation strategies. We're teaching students to independently choose the sensory tools that help them feel calm and focused, whether it's using headphones in noisy moments, taking a break in the sensory boat, or using a fidget to stay engaged. The classroom rug is helping us build social connections through group activities and structured play. Moving forward, we are excited to incorporate these tools into more sensory-friendly learning experiences, ensuring that every student has the support they need to thrive.","fullyFundedDate":1731940498491,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-support-inclusion-and-awareness/8705292/","projectTitle":"Sensory Support, Inclusion and Awareness for Autistic Students","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Martin Nolasco","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9059302"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_54741","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":662,"numTeachers":32,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":35,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":7,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"20.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":90.0,"schoolId":54741,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fancher Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fancher Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/clovis-unified-school-district/fancher-creek-elementary-school/54741"}
