We're using them to enhance our reading discussions—each color represents a different annotation purpose, and lanyards show student discussion roles. During our novel study, students eagerly marked themes and evidence, leading to richer, more organized conversations. Next, they'll use these tools to prepare group presentations connecting key ideas across chapters.\r\n\r\nWe've also started using our new Expo markers to make class-wide discussions more interactive and inclusive. Instead of only a few voices being heard, every student now contributes by writing key ideas, character traits, or pieces of textual evidence on the board. For example, during our review of The Book of Unknown Americans, students took turns using different colored markers to identify symbols and motifs, creating a visual web of connections between the characters and their experiences. This hands-on, collaborative approach helped them see how individual details tied into the novel's broader themes.\r\n\r\nBefore our last assessment, we used the whiteboard as a living study guide. Students came up in small groups to review literary concepts—like tone, symbolism, and characterization—by writing examples from our texts and explaining their reasoning to the class. This activity encouraged peer teaching and made the review much more engaging than a traditional lecture or worksheet. The colors and visuals made abstract ideas feel concrete, and students said they remembered the content better because they were actively involved in building it together.\r\n\r\nThe combination of annotation tools, lanyards, and Expo markers has transformed our classroom into a space buzzing with collaboration and creativity. Students are more confident sharing their thinking, and our discussions are more inclusive, organized, and joyful. These resources truly brought our learning community to life!","fullyFundedDate":1752832322962,"projectUrl":"project/help-my-students-write-their-own-success/9434061/","projectTitle":"Help My Students Write Their Own Success Stories","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Robinson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9695348_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1750893838988","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/m-b-robinson"},{"teacherId":9925859,"projectId":9117440,"letterContent":"Thank you for your donation! I believe that providing snacks to the students is a good idea because it is a good strategy, in a way to encourage the students to try harder in class. \r\n\r\nYou would be surprised to how much this means to the students. The students' school schedule is 7 periods of classes and only one break period, which is lunch and some of the students barely eat the school's lunches. Most students tend to get hungry late in the day to a point where they just don't have the energy or the concentration to participate in class.\r\n\r\nAgain, your donation was a big help for the students for the last few months of school.","fullyFundedDate":1740148137092,"projectUrl":"project/keep-the-snacks-coming/9117440/","projectTitle":"Keep the Snacks Coming","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Mather","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9925859"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_131139","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":101,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":28,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":70,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 10","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.3,"schoolId":131139,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Family Life Academy Charter School High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Family Life Academy Charter School High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-state-department-education/family-life-academy-charter-school-high-school/131139"}
