The first half of the school year showed me that many students avoided social opportunities even though they were surrounded by their peers. The students typically used to hide away in their phones and Chromebooks to stimulate their brains. After having a conversation with some of my students, they expressed that they were bored. They felt that their technology was their only means of entertainment. To get students to interact with each other more and break free from their devices, I asked about which board games they were interested.\r\n\r\nThis conversation led to the creation of our \"Bored students need board games\" project. My students were so excited to see the package with board games when they arrived. My homeroom students immediately helped with the unboxing of the board games, and they gathered with some groups to begin playing some games!\r\n\r\nThe difference that I saw in my students when they had access to the board games in comparison to when they did not is very notable. My students were no longer attached to their phones, they were having more conversations with their peers, and overall, they showed more excitement being at school.","fullyFundedDate":1741099927069,"projectUrl":"project/bored-students-need-board-games/8993798/","projectTitle":"Bored Students Need Board Games","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Manzano","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9541803"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_13885","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":623,"numTeachers":65,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":99,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"9.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":63.6,"schoolId":13885,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Fabens High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Fabens High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/fabens-independent-school-district/fabens-high-school/13885"}
