What was once an empty space with no instruments is now filled with music, laughter, and focused practice. We launched our brand-new Music Elective and a weekly Guitar Club, and students who had never held a guitar before are now confidently playing multiple songs together. One of the most powerful moments came when a group of beginners realized they could successfully play their first full song in unison. The look on their faces, shock, pride, and pure joy, was unforgettable. For many of them, this was the first time they experienced success in a completely new skill area, and it has boosted their confidence across other classes as well.\r\n\r\nWhen the guitars first arrived, students gathered around the boxes with genuine excitement. Several immediately asked, \"Are these really for us?\" Many of our students have never had access to private lessons or instruments at home, so simply having a guitar in their hands felt empowering. The room was filled with curiosity as they tuned strings, practiced their first chords, and helped one another. What started as hesitant strumming quickly turned into focused practice sessions, peer coaching, and looking up how to play songs on youtube and other apps. The guitars have become more than instruments, they are tools for discipline, collaboration, stress relief, and creative expression.\r\n\r\nNext, we are building toward small group performances and student-led showcases. In our current lessons, students are learning chord progressions, rhythm patterns, and beginning songwriting so they can eventually compose and perform original pieces. Guitar Club members are mentoring new students who join, creating a sustainable, student-led music culture at our school. Already, over 20 students have been directly impacted, and we are just getting started. Thanks to your support, we didn't just add instruments to a classroom; we opened a door to opportunity, belonging, and artistic growth for our students.","fullyFundedDate":1762220476741,"projectUrl":"project/guitar-elective/9617011/","projectTitle":"Guitar Elective","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Wenstrom","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10175527"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_130066","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":74,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":30,"percentWhite":30,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":23,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":0.0,"schoolId":130066,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Exploration High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Exploration High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/minnesota-department-of-education/exploration-high-school/130066"}
