We are actively using the magnetic wand and chips, as well as the skeleton dinosaur sets, to build foundational skills in ways that feel engaging, hands-on, and developmentally appropriate for young learners.\r\n\r\nThey were immediately excited. The moment we opened the materials, students were eager to participate, asking questions, sharing ideas, and volunteering to try the activities. Their enthusiasm set the tone for positive learning right away, and the excitement has continued as these tools have become part of our daily routines.\r\n\r\nWe have been using the magnetic wand as a fun, motivating way to strengthen fine-motor control while practicing early literacy skills. One of our favorite routines has been letter tracing practice: students trace letters on their work surface, then use the wand to \"collect\" matching chips as they identify the letter name and sound. This adds a purposeful movement component and helps students stay focused while repeating key skills.\r\n\r\nThe skeleton of dinosaurs has become a high-interest tool for math. A memorable moment was during a counting lesson when students counted the skeleton dinosaur pieces that they had to dig. They were excited to check their work by recounting, comparing who had more or fewer pieces, and explaining their thinking. It turned a simple counting task into a meaningful math experience that students wanted to repeat again and again.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to build on what we have started by increasing both independence and academic language during purposeful play. In literacy, students will begin using the wand and chips to match letters to beginning sounds and to practice forming letters correctly with greater control and confidence. In math, we will extend our dinosaur counting work into number matching, simple addition/subtraction stories, and comparing quantities (more, less, equal). We will also begin incorporating more structured student explanations—encouraging students to share how they counted, how they know their answer is correct, and what strategy they used.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a real difference. These materials have helped me teach important skills through playful, hands-on learning that keeps students motivated and confident. Thank you for giving my students resources that make learning memorable and meaningful.","fullyFundedDate":1760020635370,"projectUrl":"project/play-with-a-purpose/9786255/","projectTitle":"PLAY WITH A PURPOSE","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Manalo Corona","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrsmca133"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_132010","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":520,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":5,"percentAsian":86,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":2,"percentIndigenous":2,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":66.7,"schoolId":132010,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Evelyn Costa Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Evelyn Costa Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/lammersville-unified-school-district/evelyn-costa-elementary-school/132010"}
