Thanks to your support, we were able to purchase sets of Charlotte's Web and The Boxcar Children for our class, and it has completely transformed reading time for my third-grade GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) students!\r\n\r\nReading these timeless classics together allowed us to move far beyond basic comprehension and dive into advanced critical thinking using the \"Think Like a Disciplinarian\" strategy. Instead of just reading the stories, my students stepped into the shoes of actual professionals:\r\n\r\nAs Historians: They analyzed the mid-20th-century settings of the books, comparing how the children in The Boxcar Children lived off the land and solved problems with limited resources versus how we live today.\r\n\r\nAs Biologists and Ecologists: When studying Charlotte's Web, they examined ecosystems, the life cycle of barn spiders, and the genuine biological behaviors of farm animals, combining narrative fiction with real-world science.\r\n\r\nAs Ethicists and Sociologists: They looked at concepts of loyalty, friendship, resourcefulness, and how the characters treated outsiders in their communities.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, these bright minds were challenged to think critically, analyze deeply, and see the world through multiple professional lenses. You haven't just put books in their hands, you've ignited a lifelong passion for complex, meaningful literature.\r\n\r\nThank you for investing in our classroom and believing in our students!","fullyFundedDate":1744221594496,"projectUrl":"project/supporting-a-love-of-reading-through-cla/9242647/","projectTitle":"Supporting a Love of Reading Through Classic Literature!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benedict","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp171587_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1484420426427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/benedict"},{"teacherId":171587,"projectId":9513291,"letterContent":"I am writing this simply to say a massive thank you for what your donation has done for my classroom this year. Teaching today is a constant battle against digital distractions, and it can be so hard to spark genuine curiosity. But bringing Time for Kids into our weekly routine completely changed the game for my students.\r\n\r\nWhat started as a reading resource turned into something so much bigger. Many of my kids come from a world where their view is pretty limited to our neighborhood or whatever comes across their screens. This magazine gave them a trustworthy, vibrant window into the rest of the world. Whether they were reading about wildlife conservation, renewable energy, or global cultures, they stopped just passively reading and actually started asking big questions. They looked past their own bubbles and started seeing how the world works.\r\n\r\nFrom a teaching standpoint, it was an absolute lifesaver. Standard textbooks can feel so dry and intimidating, but these high-interest articles, awesome photography, and cool infographics drew the kids right in. They mastered nonfiction reading skills, ike looking at charts, reading sidebars, and backing up their opinions with facts, without it ever feeling like a chore. Plus, their vocabulary sky-rocketed naturally!\r\n\r\nThe best part, though, was watching the classroom community come alive. Every week when the issues arrived, it sparked the best debates and conversations. They brainstormed ways to help our own community and showed incredible empathy for kids living completely different lives halfway across the world.\r\n\r\nYou gave my students so much more than just a boost in their reading scores. You gave them a voice, a sense of agency, and the realization that their ideas actually matter in a bigger conversation.\r\n\r\nThank you for sending something so impactful for kids. It truly made a lasting difference in our room.","fullyFundedDate":1755274481396,"projectUrl":"project/real-world-perspectives-with-time-for-ki/9513291/","projectTitle":"Real World Perspectives With Time for Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Benedict","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp171587_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1484420426427","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/benedict"},{"teacherId":10244584,"projectId":9689867,"letterContent":"Your donation of oil pastels has brought so much creativity into our classroom! Our first project with pastels was a snowman perspective drawing. Students created their snowmen and were able to choose their perspective/viewpoint. The pastels were perfect for blending colors, adding snowy texture, and creating shadows that made the snowmen look big and round. It was so fun to see how each student's snowman turned out a little different with their own hats, scarves, and falling snow.\r\n\r\nMy students loved experimenting with smudging and layering colors to make their snow look soft, and their snowmen look more realistic. After practicing these techniques with our snowman art, we used the pastels again to create our Valentine's Day \"Analog Downsizing Heart Art\", where students focused on color blending and shading to make their hearts really pop.\r\n\r\nWe will definitely keep using these pastels as we continue exploring art in our classroom. They have opened the door for students to be more creative and confident when trying new techniques.
